The Orange & Rockland Transportation Operations Manager oversees the maintenance and reliability of the companys light-, medium-, and heavy-duty vehicle and equipment fleet across three garage locations. This role leads supervisors and automotive technicians, promotes a strong "zero harm" safety culture, builds effective partnerships with operating groups, and ensures full compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and company policies.
Core Responsibilities
- Direct the safe, timely, and effective maintenance and repair of vehicles and equipment.
- Hire, coach, and develop technicians and support staff, including onboarding, ongoing skills development, and performance management to ensure a qualified and highperforming workforce.
- Manage safety, quality assurance, and preventive maintenance programs, including review of service work orders for accuracy, compliance, and technician performance.
- Oversee daily workforce deployment and monitors productivity to ensure service commitments are met efficiently.
- Oversee budget performance and financial controls while developing initiatives to improve operational efficiency, labor utilization, and overall productivity.
- Establish and manage inventory control processes for automotive parts to ensure accurate tracking, accountability, and alignment with maintenance schedules.
- Coordinate vendor repairs and ensure adherence to established procedures, service level agreements, and organizational standards.
- Conduct regular performance evaluations, provide constructive feedback, and address performance issues in accordance with established policies and practices.
- Ensure technicians receive required training and are equipped with appropriate tools to perform work safely, efficiently, and costeffectively.
- Participate in automotive committees and provides garage maintenance insights.
- Collaborate with operating groups to support emergency response and event readiness, ensuring appropriate staffing, coverage, and technical support.
Required Education/Experience
- Bachelor's Degree and 5 years of related work experience. Related work experience includes any of the following areas: Vehicle Maintenance or Fleet Administration. or
- Associate's Degree and 7 years of related work experience. Related work experience includes any of the following areas: Vehicle Maintenance or Fleet Administration. or
- High School Diploma/GED and 9 years of related work experience. Related work experience includes any of the following areas: Vehicle Maintenance or Fleet Administration.
Relevant Work Experience
- Must have experience in Vehicle Maintenance or Fleet Administration, required.
- Must have at least three years of supervisory experience, required.
- Work experience in fleet management, required.
- Demonstrated customer focus, excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to handle multiple assignments, required.
- Demonstrated experience analyzing data, both technical and financial, required.
- Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills, required.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, required.
- Working knowledge of Oracle Business Intelligence and Supply Chain systems, required.
- Working knowledge of Fleetwave System, preferred.
Licenses and Certifications
- Driver's License Required
Physical Demands
- Ability to respond to system emergencies
- Able to work in all weather conditions, i.e. excessive heat and/or cold
- Ability to work in inclement weather and adverse conditions (i.e., excessive heat, cold, noise, confined spaces)
- Ability to travel to company locations to work on storm restoration and heat contingencies
- Wear necessary Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), i.e. fire-retardant clothing and safety harnesses
- Use personal vehicle(s), and be able to transport, store, and secure company laptops and other job-related equipment in vehicle. Acknowledge that reimbursement for use of personal vehicle is available through the company mileage procedure

- The selected candidate will be assigned a System Emergency Assignment (i.e., an emergency response role) and will be expected to work non-business hours during emergencies, which may include nights, weekends, and holidays.
