Job Duties & Responsibilities:

The Assistant Chief of Police is accountable for local day to day operations by providing direct coaching, teaching, facilitation and guidance to Deputy Chiefs, Special Agents, and Contract Security Personnel.

The Assistant Chief will oversee and lead in the protection and safeguarding of company assets and resources including personnel, property and customer's property entrusted to the company. Oversee and lead proficient, sensitive corporate and criminal investigations provide accurate, detailed reports and provide court testimony when required. Counsels and advises company officials to reduce crime and accidents and improve security; coordinates response to railroad emergencies

In addition, the Assistant Chief also performs administrative functions regarding budget, assignments of equipment and personnel. This may include scheduling, evaluation and training.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Must have satisfactorily completed basic police training at a recognized state certified academy.
  • Must meet peace officer commissioning standards in state in which this job is posted and be commissioned as such; OR be able to meet the peace officer commissioning standards in that state within one year of starting the position and maintain it thereafter.
  • Must maintain all required training standards.
  • Must meet BNSF Railway Resource Protection Team standards for employment.
  • Possess or able to obtain a valid statedriver's license.
  • Must be willing and able to travel as required.
  • Must have a broad knowledge of the railroad industry and operations, particularly as it relates to handling emergency situations such as derailments, load securement, and like events.
  • Must possess a broad knowledge of criminal laws and procedures.
  • Must be computer literate with company equipment and have a desire to continue training and education within the police and railroad profession.
  • Must have the ability and desire to meet any government or railroad standard.
  • Must have the ability to successfully communicate and lead people, often in a stressful critical-event environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree strongly preferred.
  • Masters degree is a plus.
  • Successful completion of senior police professional development coures (i.e. FBI National Academy, Senior Management Institute for Police, Southern Police Institute, Northwestern School of Police Staff and Command, etc) preferred.
