We are looking for a skilled Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic to become a vital member of our Cameron County Maintenance Organization. In this role, your technical expertise will be essential in extending the lifespan of our highway and construction vehicles and equipment, ensuring they function at their best. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this role, you will take on the critical responsibility of repairing and maintaining a wide range of vehicles, which includes cars, trucks, and tractors, as well as various types of equipment such as sweepers, mixers, and front-end loaders. Your duties will encompass the replacement and repair of essential components, including shock absorbers, transmissions, clutches, and brakes, while also ensuring that wheels are balanced and properly aligned.

Additionally, you will engage in minor body repairs and carry out comprehensive overhauls and testing of alternators and electrical systems to guarantee optimal performance. As a licensed and seasoned mechanic specializing in automotive and heavy equipment, your skills in analytical thinking, preventative maintenance, and repair will be vital for managing our diverse fleet of construction vehicles and equipment. This position requires you to maintain machinery powered by both gasoline and diesel engines, ensuring that all equipment is serviced efficiently to uphold the highest standards of public safety.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Schedule varies seasonally and/or due to operational needs.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employments within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employments at the starting annual salary of $55,492.00 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Successful completion of the commonwealth's Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic Trainee program (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Two years of journey level mechanic experience in the diagnosis and repair of automobiles, heavy trucks, or construction equipment, which includes one year of experience in the diagnosis and repair of diesel vehicles or equipment; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Special Requirements:

  • Must possess a valid Pennsylvania Class A or Class B Commercial Driver's License with the Air Brake Restriction (L) removed. This position requires that the Manual Transmission Restriction (E) is removed.
  • This position requires possession of an Medical Examiner's Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations on the first day of employment.
  • Employees may be required to obtain and maintain CDL endorsements and certifications necessary to operate specific pieces of equipment.
  • This position requires employees to possess a valid Pennsylvania Class 1, 4, or 7 Inspection Mechanic Certification on the first day of employment.
  • This position will require employees to pass the Department of Transportation's New Mechanic Training course during the probationary period.
  • This position is subject to Drug and Alcohol testing in accordance with Federal Regulations.
