About the Role
We are seeking a highly motivated AI Research & Development Intern to join our team in San Ramon, CA. This internship is focused on hands-on exploration and development of AI-driven technologies, including AI models and AI agent or framework development.
This role is ideal for a student who is excited about applied AI, enjoys working on open-ended technical problems, and wants exposure to real-world AI R&D in an enterprise environment. The intern will collaborate closely with experienced engineers and product leaders on exploratory AI projects that may influence future product capabilities.
What You'll Work On
Depending on interests and project needs, responsibilities may include:
  • Assisting with research, prototyping, and development of AI models, including experimentation with large language models (LLMs) or other ML techniques
  • Exploring and contributing to AI agent frameworks, workflows, or orchestration patterns
  • Implementing proof-of-concept solutions to demonstrate AI-driven capabilities
  • Evaluating emerging AI technologies, tools, and frameworks
  • Writing clean, well-documented code and technical notes to support knowledge sharing
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams to understand real-world use cases and constraints
This is a learning-focused role with meaningful technical ownership, not just observation.
What We're Looking For
Required / Preferred Qualifications:
  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, AI/ML, or a related field
  • Strong interest in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning
  • Some experience with Python is highly desired; familiarity with JavaScript, Java, or similar languages is a plus
  • Exposure to machine learning concepts, AI models, or AI frameworks
  • Curiosity, initiative, and comfort working in an environment with evolving requirements
  • Ability to think critically, experiment, and learn quickly
Nice to Have (Not Required):
  • Experience with LLMs, Fine-Tuning Models, AI agents, or prompt engineering
  • Familiarity with ML libraries or frameworks (e.g., LangChain, PyTorch, TensorFlow, etc.)
  • Interest in enterprise software, systems, or applied AI use cases

Location & Work Model
This role is based in San Ramon, California. A hybrid or onsite presence will be required to maximize collaboration and learning.
PTC carefully considers a wide variety of factors when determining compensation. The anticipated average hourly rate for this position is $32/hour. This rate reflects a good-faith estimate of compensation at the time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on a candidate's major, degree currently being pursued and location.
