What your job will be like:

Develop, improve, and adapt the organizations systems and standards to initiate, plan, execute, monitor, control, and close projects while ensuring compliance with Department of Energy requirements. Manage the design, construction and checkout of the experimental equipment of the MOLLER project. Responsible for delivering the technical performance of the MOLLER project within cost and schedule requirements, and for providing the required project plans and status reports. Work in close collaboration with the Hall A/C Leader and collaboration to optimize scientific output within the cost and schedule goals for the MOLLER project, and with the Associate Director for the Physics Division to ensure that the project priorities are well-communicated and carefully balanced with the needs of the ongoing research program. Responsible for the day to day management of the MOLLER project and supervises, through a matrixed approach, the various Control Account Managers.

In this role you will:


  • Manage project goals and priorities and delivers the technical performance within cost and schedule requirements
  • Lead responsibility within the Laboratory for developing the MOLLER Experimental Equipment scope, cost estimate, and schedule
  • Organize and lead a professional staff of project analysts and support personnel
  • Manage staffing needs based on project workload changes, recruit new staff, provide initial and recurrent training, coaching, and performance management
  • Ensure effective project management systems and tools are used to develop, document, and monitor cost controls and milestone schedules to assess project performance and achieve project deliverables.
  • Ensure that DOE requirements are adhered to including project documentation and reporting, risk assessments, and EH&S.


Qualifications we require:

Education


  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering

Experience



  • 15 or more years Nuclear or Accelerator Physics
  • Experience in project management of a facility, a major scientific experiment, or an experimental equipment construction effort


Experience and Education Exchange

Relevant experience may not be substituted for education

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities



  • Extensive knowledge of nuclear experimental equipment technology,
  • Knowledge of other scientific and technical programs and DOE project management policies and requirement.,
  • Ability to lead and manage complex technical projects, working with scientists, engineers, and information technology professionals in a high technology organization.,
  • Ability to establish priorities, assess competing resource demands and make decisions that optimize project performance.,
  • Excellence planning and assessment skills.,
  • Interpersonal, communication. and negotiation skills.,
  • Ability to work in a federal prime contract environment governed by the Federal Acquisition Regulations and agency-specific project management requirements.,
  • Ability to organize a blended workforce composed of employees, contractor staff, and consultants.

Qualifications we prefer:

Ph.D. in Physics, Engineering or related discipline
