Job Overview:

The Chief Therapist is responsible for the clinical leadership and daily operations of the Radiation Oncology department. This position reports directly to the Director, Radiation Oncology. The role ensures the delivery of high-quality patient care, adherence to accreditation standards, and compliance with regulatory requirements.

Qualification

Required:

  • Graduate of an accredited Radiation Therapy program
  • Bachelor s Degree preferred -in lieu of Bachelor s degree, min
  • 15 years of Radiation Therapist experience would be considered
  • Minimum 7-10 years of experience as a Radiation Therapist
  • Experience leading accreditation efforts , ASTRO APEx, ACR, or similar, preferred
  • Experience in quality improvement, patient safety, and regulatory compliance
  • Strong leadership and team-building abilities
  • Expertise in radiation therapy workflows, treatment planning, and accreditation processes
  • Expertise with Varian and Aria
  • Knowledge of state and federal regulatory requirements, including NRC, OSHA, and CMS guidelines
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills
  • ARRT T certification in Radiation Therapy
  • NJDEP Radiation Therapy required

Scheduling Requirements (non-exempt positions):

  • Full-Time
  • Day
  • 37.5 Work week

Essential Functions:

  • This position combines clinical expertise with administrative oversight, ensuring that Radiation Therapists and staff adhere to best practices in treatment delivery, simulation, and quality assurance
  • The Chief Therapist works closely with Radiation Oncologists, Medical Physicists, and Dosimetrists to maintain exceptional treatment accuracy and patient safety
  • Enters treatment prescription for each patient and arranges to have data rechecked for accuracy.

* Constructs and/or utilized blocks, shielding devices and other treatment and immobilization devices according to the physician's prescription.

* Explain procedure to patient, prepare supplies needed for simulation, and monitor patient and equipment during procedure.

* Position and immobilize patient using available tools and instrumentation as required (e.g., lasers, fiducial markers).

* Perform CT scan for region of interest; participate in determining treatment fields.

* Review and discuss CT scan and treatment plan with appropriate personnel.

* Utilize preset protocols or adjust imaging parameters to obtain optimal images.

* Mark isocenter and transmit network images to workstation.

* Record patient position and other required information.

* Explain treatment plans to the patient and answer questions about treatment.

* Follow safety procedures to protect the patient and themselves from overexposure to radiation.

* Examine machines to make sure they are safe and working properly.

* Check computer programs to make sure the machine will give the correct dose of radiation to the appropriate area of the patient's body.

* Operate the machine to treat the patient with radiation.

* Input and maintain detailed computerized records of patient treatment.

* Accurately bills all patient treatments, set ups and procedures.

* Coordinates and Maintains Staff Radiation Therapist work and PTO schedule.

* Schedule Patient Appointments.
