Inside the Role

Interns will gain knowledge and experience through exciting and real-life learning opportunities. Interns must work in accordance with DTNA's core values of passion, respect, integrity and discipline. Internship positions can be located at various DTNA locations across the US. We are looking for high performing and motivated individuals in various areas within DTNA organizations. DTNA internships begin each summer in May or June.

Interns in this role may have the opportunity to transition into a full-time position subject to manager evaluations and business availability.

Manufacturing Engineering supports primarily Thomas Built Bus (TBB) products including the Jouley EV Bus and new D2. This intern will be working on short term projects to support direct problem solving or specific projects to improve our safety, quality, and efficiency of our operation. This internship will provide exposure to new technologies and the opportunity to suggest process improvements. This intern will support the production of new and existing school bus designs, combining conventional and electric powertrains in a single assembly plant. The intern will assist in standardizing, improving, and developing new manufacturing processes as needed.

Salary placement is determined by your anticipated graduation year and ranges between $21 - $29 per hour.

What You Drive at DTNA
  • Work with experienced engineers to investigate and solve complex manufacturing issues using standard problem solving techniques (5 why, PDCA, A3, etc.).
  • Work with experienced engineers to learn about modern manufacturing processes including resistance welding, industrial robotics, spray coatings and mechanical fastening.
  • Work with experienced engineers to understand current production processes and improve them or develop new processes.
  • Work with experienced engineers and production personnel to implement new or improved production processes.
  • Lead and support efforts to foster an inclusive and welcoming workplace culture where everyone belongs.

Knowledge You Should Bring

  • Must be currently enrolled in a Bachelor's program or higher from an accredited college/university OR have recently graduated within 1 year of the position start date (May/June)
  • Pursing a degree in Industrial Engineering, Industrial Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering, Plant Engineering or related field
  • Experience working with 3D CAD models and assemblies required
  • Comfortable working in a manufacturing environment required
  • Proficiency in Microsoft office products (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) required
  • Experience with Autocad Inventor, Solid Works, or Creo is preferred
  • Experience with Continuous Improvement activities preferred
  • Knowledge of Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) preferred
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Solid organizational skills
  • Creative mindset
  • Interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team environment
