Vice President, HR Business Partner, R&D

OVERVIEW:

Reporting to the Chief Human Resources Officer, the Vice President, Human Resources for R&D will lead the global people and culture strategy for Alnylam's Research & Development organization. As a key member of the HR Leadership Team, this role will serve as a strategic advisor to senior R&D leaders, driving enterprise-level HR initiatives that enable innovation, organizational effectiveness, and a high-performance culture. The role will also oversee a team of HR Business Partners and collaborate closely with HR Centers of Excellence to deliver integrated, scalable solutions aligned with Alnylam's mission and growth strategy.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead the development and execution of a comprehensive HR strategy for the global R&D organization, aligned with enterprise goals and culture
  • Serve as a strategic partner to the CHRO and R&D leadership, advising on organizational design, talent planning, and leadership development
  • Build and manage a high-performing HR Business Partner team to deliver coordinated support across R&D functions
  • Drive organizational effectiveness through change management, performance enablement, and leadership capability building
  • Build strong, influential relationships with key stakeholders, removing barriers to enable operational transformation across the business.
  • Facilitate regular leadership team meetings and drive continuous improvement in leadership capability and organizational effectiveness.
  • Establish a continuous improvement strategy grounded in business priorities to ensure the organizational readiness for future growth and expansion.
  • Partner with Talent Acquisition to attract and retain top scientific talent in a competitive, high-growth environment
  • Oversee employee relations and performance management strategies to foster accountability, inclusion, and engagement
  • Collaborate with Total Rewards and other COEs to ensure competitive compensation and benefits programs that support talent retention and motivation
  • Champion and reinforce a culture of innovation, collaboration, and accountability aligned with enterprise-wide values and the unique demands of R&D.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field required; advanced degree (MBA or HR Master's) preferred
  • 12+ years broad and progressive human resources experience including proven direct partnership with senior business leaders in high-growth organizations recognized for best practices in HR. Must have depth of HR experience with demonstrated expertise in best-in-class HR practices; track record of advancement in roles with increasing scope and responsibilities.
  • Biotech or Pharma industry experience supporting Research and/or Development organizations required. Global leadership experience preferred.
  • Both large and small company experience preferred; small company mindset required; large company experience with affiliate/non-HQ experience a plus.
  • Experience partnering with and acting as a trusted advisor to senior business leaders on major organizational decisions. Collaborative leader and consummate team-player who effectively builds strong relationships across the business to drive results. Expert influencing skills with a demonstrated ability to establish HR as a high-impact, credible partner.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate business strategy into actionable HR goals, design and integrate effective business solutions, and align people initiatives with enterprise objectives.
  • Successful track record of independently managing multiple projects in a fast-paced and deadline-driven environment. Excellent attention to detail and execution skills.
  • Track record of successful strategic and tactical execution of programs across multiple HR disciplines, including HR Business Partnering, Employee Relations, Organization Development & Effectiveness, Talent Acquisition, Performance Management, and Total Rewards, in roles with increasing scope and responsibilities.
  • Transformational leader capable of inspiring best-in-class teams with expertise in team building, talent development, and organizational effectiveness. Excels at motivating teams, setting direction, fostering accountability, and driving results in fast-paced environments.
  • Experience shaping culture including best practices in team dynamics, working in a network operating model, and ensuring organizational values are realized.
  • Exceptional communication, coaching, and interpersonal skills with a high level of executive maturity and integrity

U.S. Pay Range

$310,000.00 - $420,000.00

The pay range reflects the full-time base salary range we expect to pay for this role at the time of posting. Base pay will be determined based on a number of factors including, but not limited to, relevant experience, skills, and education. This role is eligible for an annual short-term incentive award (e.g., bonus or sales incentive) and an annual long-term incentive award (e.g., equity).
