Manager, Lab Services - James | Cytogenetics Laboratory

Scope of Position

The Cytogenetics Laboratory provides chromosomal analysis, fluorescent in situ hybridization (FISH) services for both OSUMC patients and outside institutions. The CAP certified laboratory is recognized as one of the top academic centers performing highly complex genetic testing utilizing advanced technology. It supports outreach testing programs, multi-institution cooperative efforts and educational rotations for students, residents, fellows and faculty from internal and external institutions. The manager reports directly to the Operations Director and will oversee the daily operations related to testing including all phases of diagnostic analysis, as well as ensures laboratory inspection preparedness / readiness related to CAP/CLIA compliance standards. Technical and medical activities are in coordination with Pathology Division Director and Clinical Laboratory Medical Director. The laboratory is regularly staffed five days a week (Monday through Friday) with weekend hours as needed.

Position Summary

The Clinical Lab Manager position is responsible for the daily technical operations of the Cytogenetics Laboratory. The manager reports directly to the Operations Director of The James Clinical Labs. Technical and medical activities are in coordination with Pathology Technical Director(s) and Clinical Lab Medical Director. The manager will meet with other hospital department leadership to ensure operational needs are met. Duties include timekeeping, technical work, QC and QA monitoring, ensure safety compliance, formulating process improvement projects and assisting with purchasing equipment and supplies. Creates and monitors fiscal budget reports and handles all personnel issues and performance reviews. Responsible for technical procedure updates and communicating changes to staff. This individual will ensure laboratory inspection preparedness / readiness related to CAP/CLIA compliance standards.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelors Degree in Biological Sciences, Health related Sciences or equivalent combination of education and experience. American Society of Clinical Pathology Certification in Medical Technologist, Medical Lab Technician, Medical Lab Scientist, or specialized certification. 5 years of relevant experience required. 8-12 years of relevant experience preferred. Previous supervisory / management experience highly desirable.
