Role description

We are seeking a Senior Database Engineer with 12-15 years of experience in designing, managing, and optimizing enterprise-level databases across Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, and Azure cloud platforms. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in performance tuning, database architecture, and cloud adoption, with hands-on experience in SSRS, SSIS, Azure SQL Server, and Azure Managed Instance. This role requires strong technical leadership, problem-solving skills, and the ability to collaborate across development, operations, and business teams.

Key Responsibilities

Database Design & Administration




  • Design, implement, and manage Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server databases for mission-critical, high-performance applications.



  • Administer Azure SQL Server and Azure Managed Instance, ensuring availability, scalability, and compliance.




Performance Optimization




  • Perform query tuning, index management, partitioning, and execution plan analysis to optimize database performance.



  • Work with development teams to refine SQL queries, stored procedures, and database structures.




BI, ETL & Reporting




  • Develop and maintain SSRS (reporting) and SSIS (ETL workflows) to support business intelligence and integration needs.




High Availability & Disaster Recovery




  • Implement and manage Always On, Failover Clustering, Replication, Log Shipping, and Mirroring.



  • Define and maintain robust backup and disaster recovery strategies.




Security & Compliance




  • Apply RBAC, auditing, encryption, and security best practices to ensure compliance with enterprise and industry standards.




Cloud & Automation




  • Support database migrations, upgrades, and cloud adoption strategies across hybrid environments.



  • Contribute to database automation initiatives using scripting and cloud-native tools.




Collaboration & Mentorship




  • Partner with cross-functional stakeholders on database design, integration, and migration projects.



  • Provide technical mentorship to junior engineers and foster knowledge sharing within the team.




Qualifications & Experience




  • 12-15 years of hands-on database engineering and administration experience.



  • Strong expertise in Oracle (PL/SQL, indexing, partitioning) and Microsoft SQL Server (T-SQL, stored procedures, indexing).



  • Proven skills in performance tuning, query optimization, and execution plan analysis.



  • Experience with Azure SQL Server, Azure Managed Instance, and cloud-based database solutions.



  • Proficiency in SSRS (reporting services) and SSIS (ETL development).



  • Hands-on experience with high availability configurations (Always On, clustering, replication, log shipping).



  • Strong knowledge of database security, auditing, and compliance.



  • Excellent troubleshooting, problem-solving, and communication skills in complex environments.



  • Preferred certifications:




    • Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate



    • Oracle Database Administrator Certified Professional (OCP)






Preferred Skills




  • Experience with cloud-native database platforms and automation frameworks.



  • Familiarity with DevOps practices, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), and CI/CD pipelines for database deployments.



  • Exposure to NoSQL databases and hybrid cloud architectures.
