If you're passionate about this, we want to hear from you! About the Role MWH is currently seeking an experienced Quality Control Field Engineer to support project work in Portland, OR. Key Responsibilities
- Conduct daily field inspections of pipe and tunnel construction activities to ensure compliance with project specifications, codes, and safety standards.
- Verify installation of piping systems, tunnel liners, supports, and associated components against approved drawings and technical documents.
- Witness and document field testing procedures, including hydrostatic, pneumatic, and weld integrity tests for piping and tunnel systems.
- Capture and maintain photographic and written records of inspection findings, non-conformances, and corrective actions.
- Monitor subcontractor work for adherence to quality standards and provide immediate feedback or escalation for deviations.
- Collaborate with field engineers and superintendents to resolve constructability issues and ensure quality is embedded in daily operations.
- Perform material inspections upon delivery to verify conformance with specifications and proper handling/storage procedures.
- Support root cause analysis for recurring field issues and contribute to preventive action planning.
- Coach field crews on quality expectations, inspection readiness, and documentation requirements.
- Assist in developing and updating field-level quality checklists, inspection protocols, and punch lists.
- Ensure compliance with environmental and safety regulations during inspection activities, especially in confined spaces and high-risk areas.
- Participate in preparatory meetings and hold points to align inspection criteria with construction milestones.
- Support the Quality Manager in compiling inspection reports, NCRs, and closeout documentation for client review.
- Maintain a visible presence in the field, proactively identifying potential quality risks before they impact schedule or cost.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, or Process Engineering-or equivalent field experience and technical training.
- Minimum 5 years of direct inspection or construction experience, with a strong emphasis on underground utilities, piping systems, and tunnel scopes.
- Construction Quality Management (CQM) certification. Or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.
- Demonstrated ability to perform and document field inspections of piping and tunnel installations, including verification against drawings, specifications, and regulatory codes.
- Hands-on experience witnessing and recording field testing procedures such as hydrostatic, pneumatic, and weld integrity tests.
- Proven capability to identify non-conformances in the field and support resolution through coordination with engineering and construction teams.
- Skilled in maintaining detailed inspection records, including photographic documentation, daily reports, and punch lists.
- Familiarity with constructability reviews and proactive issue identification during field execution.
- Strong understanding of safety protocols and confined space requirements during inspection activities.
- Effective communicator with field crews, subcontractors, and project leadership-able to coach teams on inspection readiness and quality expectations.
- Experience supporting root cause analysis and contributing to preventive action planning for recurring field issues.
- Proficiency in digital tools for inspection tracking, reporting, and collaboration (e.g., BIM/VDC platforms, visual scheduling tools).
- Ability to manage inspection responsibilities across multiple active projects, maintaining consistency and attention to detail.
Compensation:
- Anticipated yearly salary for this role is $125,000 - $155,000 based on experience
