BASIC FUNCTION:

The Director of Portfolio Monitoring leads a team responsible for covenant and borrowing base review activities, ensuring compliance with procedures, work instructions, and regulations. This role is pivotal in positioning the Portfolio Monitoring Team into strategic analysts focused on early risk identification that partner with assigned deal teams to provide actionable insights that strengthen overall portfolio performance with sound credit risk management. This Director will collaborate closely with key leadership and other stakeholders to build scalable processes, deliver timely insights, and communicate portfolio trends to Senior and Executive Leadership, as well as appropriate risk committees.

LEVELS OF SUPERVISION EXERCISED AND RECEIVED:

Provides direct supervision and oversight to designated staff within Portfolio Monitoring Team. Makes independent decisions; works under the supervision of the Head of Credit Delivery Support.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Leadership and Team Development
    • Actively develops individuals into analytical advisors who can confidently interpret borrowing base and covenant requirements, spot emerging risks, and articulate insights to deal teams.
    • Fosters a growth mindset across the team by providing opportunities for training, mentorship, and stretch assignments that expand technical and business acumen.
    • Models, and encourages, regular engagement with deal teams, positioning individuals as trusted partners who add value to underwriting and portfolio management decisions.
    • Trains the team to go beyond data accuracy, teaching individuals to craft clear, compelling narratives from monitoring results that inform business decisions and committee discussions.
    • Identifies and prepares high-potential talent for advancement, ensuring clear development pathways into roles across credit, underwriting, risk, evaluations, etc.
    • Establishes high standards for accuracy, timelines and insight, while recognizing and rewarding behaviors that drive both compliance and strategic value.
  • Monitoring and Analysis
    • Ensures in depth and timely analysis of covenants and borrowing bases, balancing precision with forward-looking perspectives.
    • Implement monitoring processes and dashboards that proactively surface anomalies, stress points, and borrower risks before they escalate.
    • Regularly reviews financial, credit, and operational data on complex loans, drawing connections between borrower-level stress and portfolio-wide trends.
    • Provides contextual analysis that helps teams and risk committees understand the story behind the numbers.
    • Identifies and integrates best practices, analytics, and tools that strengthen monitoring precision, speed and strategic value.
  • Collaboration and Influence
    • Build strong, collaborative relationships with Go to Market staff, leaders, and other key stakeholders to ensure monitoring outputs are integrated into underwriting and portfolio management decisions.
    • Presents portfolio trends, insights, and risks to senior and executive leadership, as well as appropriate risk committees in a clear, actionable manner that is aligned with business strategy.
    • Acts as a connector between analysts, underwriters, credit management, credit resolution, and other key stakeholders to ensure insights are communicated and acted upon across the organization.
  • Strategic Execution and Risk Oversight
    • Positions the Portfolio Monitoring Team as an early warning function that strengthens long-term portfolio resilience.
    • Drives high standards of accuracy, timeliness, and consistency in all monitoring processes, ensuring regulatory and procedural compliance.
    • Establishes monitoring protocols that highlight emerging risks and recommend proactive steps for deal teams and leadership.
    • Introduces analytical methods, reporting tools, and automation that shift the function from reactive compliance to predictive insights.

TYPICAL EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • BA/BS degree with emphasis on agriculture, agribusiness, business administration, or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated experience in credit, finance, or underwriting within a financial institution.
  • Eight (8) years of banking or related agricultural lending experience. Agribusiness or Capital Markets underwriting experience preferred.
  • Working knowledge of agricultural lending principles and practices, and Association and FCS operating policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of FCA regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in organizing and prioritizing work to meet deadlines and maintain business functions.
  • Exceptional written, verbal, analytical, persuasive, and interpersonal skills. Demonstrated proficiency in leading and motivating others.
  • Exceptional ability to make sound decisions involving varied levels of risks and ambiguity. Balances competing priorities in reaching decisions.
  • High level of objectivity, empathy and diplomacy to establish and maintain an effective on-going relationship between departments, customers, bank, and regulatory agencies.
  • Ability to use software and information technology to collect, organize, retrieve, maintain and disseminate information. Ability to use technology in new or complex situations.

ESSENTIAL JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Must have the ability to perform basic office tasks and work in a typical office setting. Employee will be sitting for extended periods of time and accomplishing work at a desk and work at a computer for an extended period of time. Must have strong written and verbal communication skills to adequately convey ideas and work well with a team. Ability to talk and hear, sit and use their hands and fingers, and reach in all directions is essential in performance of the job. Some lifting and moving of items up to 25 pounds required. Work during established business hours and may require occasional weekend and/or evening work. Travel Required.

FULL-TIME REMOTE: These roles and job functions can be done remotely, while maintaining our strong commitment to customer service and our business goals. Employees are welcome to come to an office to work if needed, and some travel for team meetings will be required.

PAY RANGE:

Minimum $110,300.78 - Max $214,810.77 Annual

This range is reflective of the national salary average for this position and will be adjusted using geographic variance for physical location of the hired candidate. American AgCredit may compensate outside of the salary range for bona fide reasons not related to membership in a protected class.

  • Reflected is the national base pay range and title offered for this job at the current level.

  • Compensation, title, and job level may be adjusted based on candidate qualifications including but not limited to achievements, skills, experience, or work location.

  • Salary offered, within the applicable range, is one component of the total rewards package offered to candidates.
