Overview

We are seeking a meticulous LiDAR Technician to join our Geospatial team. In this role, you will focus on classifying and cleaning LiDAR point clouds to accurately identify ground points, ensuring high-quality datasets for mapping and analysis. This position is ideal for someone with a strong attention to detail who enjoys working with 3D geospatial data.

This position is onsite at the NV5 office in Portland, OR.

Responsibilities

    Classify ground points from raw airborne and mobile LiDAR datasets
  • Remove noise and artifacts from LiDAR point clouds to create clean, accurate terrain models
  • Perform quality assurance to verify ground classification meets project standards
  • Collaborate with analysts and project leads to ensure smooth data workflows
  • Maintain organized data files and documentation for processed datasets
  • Assist in troubleshooting and refining classification workflows
  • Apply software tools and scripts to automate repetitive tasks


Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • 1+ years of experience working with LiDAR data, preferably in ground point classification
  • Familiarity with LiDAR processing and classification software (e.g., TerraScan, LAStools, RiProcess)
  • Strong attention to detail and focus on data quality
  • Ability to work independently and follow precise technical workflows
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills

Experience/Skills Preferred (in addition to requirements):

  • Experience with ESRI, CAD, or vector-based software
  • Knowledge of LiDAR point cloud editing, filtering, and terrain modeling
  • Basic scripting knowledge (Python, Visual Basic, or similar)
  • Understanding of airborne and mobile LiDAR sensor characteristic
