CDL AUDITOR 3 Department of Safety & Homeland Security Internal Audit Nashville, TN Salary: The minimum starting salary for this position is $4,562/month. Closing Date: 10/30/2025

The position provides a hybrid schedule which currently requires in-office attendance two days a week and remote work for the rest of the week.

Exceptions for higher compensation may be considered based on education and experience in accordance with Department of Human Resources (DOHR) policy. Job Overview:

The Internal Audit Division of the Tennessee Department of Safety & Homeland Security is looking for an experienced auditor with a desire to support the mission of the department. As a Commercial Driver License (CDL) Auditor 3, you will be responsible for conducting annual administrative audits and covert and co-score audits for state and third party CDL examiners. Under general supervision, the CDL Auditor 3 will work independently or lead a small team to perform audits. The CDL Auditor 3 may also be assigned to uniquely difficult audits and special requests from department senior leadership. The CDL Auditor 3 position is an Executive Service position housed in the Internal Audit Division, reporting directly to the Auditor 4 in charge of CDL audits.

Key Responsibilities:

Key responsibilities for this role include but are not limited to the following:

  • Examines documentation, managerial practices, and policies and procedures of CDL examiners to ensure compliance with federal (FMCSA and AAMVA) and state regulations.
  • Evaluates CDL examiners knowledge, skills and abilities when administering CDL tests to commercial license applicants.
  • Ensures that applicant and examiner qualifications meet federal and state requirements
  • Preparation of draft audit reports clearly communicating audit results and recommendations for corrective action.

Other duties and special projects as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Position Requirements: Bachelors Degree from an accredited college or university preferred. Professional certification(s) such as CPA, CIA or CFE preferred. Experience in compliance auditing is highly preferred. Experience in the CDL examination process will be considered a plus. Ability to work outside, regardless of weather conditions, and enter/exit all types of commercial vehicles. Must have or be willing to acquire basic knowledge of how commercial vehicles function. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications. Some overnight travel will be required
