The Role:

We are looking for our next Technology Guardian within our Continuous Improvement & Manufacturing Technology (MT) team. The Technology Guardian will be a recognized process technology technical expert in the Methocel (MC) network within the Health and Pharma Solutions (HPS) Business Unit. The Technology Guardian will report to the MC Global Improvement Leader and up through the Manufacturing Technology (MT) function within PhS Operations, and will lead in the effort to identify, document, and leverage best technology practices, facilitate problem solving and proactively drive mentoring across the sites.

The location of the role is flexible, however ideally would be located at or close to one of the MC manufacturing facilities listed below:

  • Midland, Michigan USA
  • Plaquemine, Louisiana USA
  • Stade, Germany
  • Bomlitz, Germany

Compensation:

The current salary range for this role is estimated to be $120,000- $163,000. In addition, this position may also be eligible to earn performance-based incentive compensation. The specific compensation offered to a candidate will be influenced by a variety of factors including but not limited to skills, qualifications, experience, and location.

What You'll Do:

  • Document the technology for MC manufacturing processes and maintain this manual. Help establish critical operating limits for the manufacturing processes to ensure alignment between product quality, process safety and application performance. Evaluate and document improvements in technology.
  • Work within the MT organization to drive harmonization of best practices across manufacturing sites and leverage the application of technology improvements.
  • Assume approval role in the Management of Change process.
  • Lead & participate in in-depth problem solving and troubleshooting on global technology issues, such as: resolution of customer complaints, improvement in process capability, and transfer of products between sites.
  • Support project development by taking active involvement in Front End Loading (e.g. BOL development).
  • Work with the GIL to provide appropriate detailed design, commissioning & start-up & RTO support as appropriate.
  • Support the process validation program.
  • Support and Digital and Data Analytics Improvement initiatives with the MC Digital Engineers and site operations teams.
  • Support the MC Sustainability program to meet the company and business Sustainability goals.
  • Improve and harmonize plant trials and new product development processes.
  • Support development of new products or processes by providing process technology input.
  • Support strategic business initiatives by providing technical input related to internal and external process developments, and competitive technology assessments.
  • Provide technical expertise in Process Hazard Assessments and Root Cause Investigations.
  • Provide technical training, coaching, and mentoring.
  • Provide technical support to colleagues withing the Regulatory function.

What You'll Need:

Education:

  • Bachelor of Science / Engineering in Chemical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent

Experience:

  • Minimum of 10 years' experience in chemical, excipient, or pharmaceutical manufacturing in an operations or technical role.

Supervisory Responsibility (if applicable)

  • N/A

Competencies:

  • Deep understanding of the MC manufacturing processes and related technologies.
  • Strong technical writing, presentation and communication skills including around senior leadership.
  • Ability to develop and mentor technical engineers as part of the MT team and outside the MT, e.g. within operations.
  • Highly knowledgeable about multivariate analysis, statistical methods and concepts.
  • Skilled at negotiation and leading in a matrix environment.
  • Capability and resilience to drive through barriers and resistance to technology development programs, projects and initiatives.
  • Experience in PSM program development and/or implementation preferred.
  • Ability to see big picture and think longer term balancing short vs. long term goals.
  • Comfortable dealing with ambiguity and managing multiple competing priorities.
  • Ability to work and influence across multiple functions within a site and across the network at multiple levels of the MC and HPS organization.
  • Fluent in English

Work Environment

  • This role spends approximately 75% of the time in an office environment and 25% of the time in the plant environment.

Physical Demands

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to speak or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk, climb stairs, use hands and fingers to handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms; work in hot, cold and loud environments.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

  • This is a full-time position. Days and flexible hours of work are required to meet facility demands.

Business Travel:

  • Travel, including international, will be required when working on projects at other manufacturing plants (currently US and Germany)
  • Additional ad hoc travel may be requested to support of capital projects and visiting suppliers or raw material providers.
