Position Qualifications

Education

  • High School Diploma or GED

Experience

  • Two (2) years of custodial work experience

OR

Combined education and experience qualifications

  • Other combinations of education or experience may substitute for the minimum qualifications on a year-for-year basis.

Other requirements

  • Must possess, or can obtain by the time of hire, a valid Arizona driver's license.
  • Training that may be provided on-the-job: FEMA NIMS - IS100 and 700; Safety; Payroll; PREA.
  • Prior to hiring, the Sheriff's Office requires that all candidates pass a background review.

  • Experience working in a high security environment.
  • Intermediate to advanced level knowledge of grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
  • Intermediate to advanced skills using Microsoft 365 and Office applications (e.g., Excel, Word).

Essential Job Tasks

(This is not an all-inclusive list of all job duties that may be required; employees will be required to perform other related duties as assigned.)

  • Supervises Custodians by inspecting and monitoring all work.
  • Supervises inmate work crews as needed.
  • Prepares work schedules, reviews and approves time sheets in Workday, and assists employees with Workday payroll system.
  • Trains Custodians in all custodial procedures to prevent any health violations.
  • Ensures inmate work crews are trained in custodial procedures as needed.
  • Schedules and conducts safety meetings to ensure compliance with all Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Arizona Health Department, and Safety Data Sheets (SDS) standards.
  • Maintains the cleanliness and sanitary conditions of County facilities.
  • Works with cleaning fluids, chemicals, cleaning agents, or similar solutions using appropriate protective equipment while maintaining County facilities.
  • Operates, maintains, and performs minor repairs to power-driven custodial equipment.
  • Safeguards all keys used to lock/unlock secure areas to be cleaned.
  • Enters data and maintains work logs and records.
  • Receives and resolves complaints and problems, analyzes field problems, and develops proactive solutions.
  • Inventories all cleaning supplies/equipment on a periodic basis.
  • Orders, controls, and assigns all supplies, cleaning chemicals, and equipment for designated areas.
  • Recommends items for purchase to management.
  • Generates work orders for special projects.
  • Coordinates and participates in training programs for Custodial Services Staff.
  • Inspects assigned work areas regularly.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Manager
  • Provides exemplary customer service.
  • Be present at work site to perform tasks as scheduled and/or assigned by supervisor.
  • Performs monthly and annual evaluations.
  • Responsible for checking and entering information via MCSO web-based applications.

Work occurs primarily indoors working in MCSO jail facilities with various staff and all classifications of inmates.

Work occurs indoors in a 24/7 operation which requires ability to work any shift.Conditions may include inmate contact and working in dangerous environments. Tasksrequire manual dexterity to operate equipment as well as ability to managefrequent interruptions, time pressures, and high work volume. Position requires teamwork, concentration, accuracy, and ethical conduct.

  • Janitorial chemicals and equipment usage (e.g., vacuum cleaner, wet/dry vacuum, floor machine, mop and mop wringer)
  • Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Hazardous Materials (HAZMAT), and Arizona safety and health regulations

Skill in

  • Operating standard janitorial equipment

Ability to

  • Communicate effectively in English orally and in written format
  • Establish and maintain successful working relationships

SELECTION PROCEDURE:

The hiring authority will select the successful candidate based on departmental needs.

Typically, successful candidates are hired at a salary rate, up to midpoint of the range, based on applicable experience, internal equity and budgetary allowances.
