What to Expect
We're seeking a highly motivated and experienced Technical Program/Product Manager (TPM) to join the fastest growing area of Tesla: Energy. This is a unique opportunity to blend your product management acumen with a technical or software engineering background to drive the successful delivery of complex products. These will be some of the highest visibility technical programs on the Energy Team. You will be the glue that binds product vision, engineering execution, and cross-functional collaboration amongst firmware, software, product, and service engineering teams to ensure we build the right features, the right way, and at the right time for internal and external users. While this role does not require you to come in as an expert on battery and energy systems, you will work on Megapacks, Superchargers, and Powerwalls. A successful candidate will be one who is curious and can learn quickly about electrification and Energy systems. This is a rewarding role where you can directly change the trajectory of products that accelerate our transition to a renewable energy future.

What You'll Do
  • Technical Project Management: Lead the planning, execution, and delivery of complex software development projects, from inception to launch. This includes defining what we are building for users, the project scope, timelines, engineering resource allocation, and risk mitigation strategies
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Facilitate communication and collaboration between firmware, software, service engineering, and applications engineering teams to ensure alignment and transparency throughout the program's lifecycle
  • Software Engineering Expertise: Leverage your software engineering or technical background to understand engineering challenges, contribute to technical discussions, and effectively communicate with engineering teams. You'll be able to dive into the details when necessary, without necessarily writing code yourself (although experience with Git or similar is helpful)
  • Process Improvement: Identify and implement process improvements to enhance project efficiency, quality, and predictability
  • Risk Management: Proactively identify and mitigate potential risks and roadblocks, escalating issues as needed and developing contingency plans
  • Metrics & Reporting: Define and track key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure project success and provide regular updates to stakeholders, including Directors and VPs on project status, risks, and dependencies

What You'll Bring
  • Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of experience in technical program management, preferably in a software development or technical program environment
  • Solid understanding of software development methodologies and software development lifecycles; hands-on frontend or backend software engineering experience is a significant advantage
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills, including the ability to be clear and concise
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including knowledge of SQL and basic table structures
  • Experience with project management tools (e.g., Jira)
