Summary The Mary Free Bed at Sparrow Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit Therapy Manager is responsible for daily operations necessary to assure that the inpatient rehabilitation program is effectively and efficiently delivering physical, occupational and speech and language therapy in compliance with payer, licensing, and regulatory requirements for all inpatients in our care. The Therapy Manager oversees the interviewing and selection of staff and is responsible for their direct supervision, coaching to performance expectations, the corrective action process and formal employee evaluations. The Therapy Manager uses independent judgement in problem solving, takes necessary steps to resolve issues, and improve workflows of therapy support staff roles. The Therapy Manager develops and implements processes and procedures to facilitate and continuously improve the efficiency of daily therapy operations and achieve expected productivity targets, participates in budget planning and collaborates closely with therapy team leads, the Program Director and the interdisciplinary inpatient leadership team to drive collaboration across disciplines and specialty areas for consistent delivery of well-coordinated rehabilitation care and consistent conformance to departmental policies and procedures. The Therapy Manager is responsible to demonstrate excellent customer service, while upholding the Mary Free Bed Standards of Behavior and supporting the mission, vision, and values of Mary Free Bed. Essential Job Responsibilities * Provide patient care, treatment, and services within the scope of their license, certification or registration and as required by Federal and State laws and regulations. * Hires, onboards and directly supervises all team members within the Mary Free Bed at Sparrow therapy team including staffing, patient scheduling, equipment ordering, rehab techs and others as assigned. * Completes annual performance evaluation for all roles assigned. * Develops a culture of personal accountability, solution-seeking behavior, mutual respect, open communication, acceptance of change, enthusiasm, and pride. As opportunities for celebration and opportunities for improvement are identified, the therapy manager will collaborate with other team leaders to achieve improvement. * Responsible for developing and assuring consistent implementation of processes and procedures relevant to therapy staff and operations. * Empowers direct reports by delegating clear responsibility, accountability, and authority to meet mutually agreed upon expectations. * Maintains confidentiality of patient and employee information and holds direct reports accountable for the same. * Responsible for first line investigation of and follow-up on incident reports that involve therapy staff. Engages team leads or Program Director as needed for employee coaching. * Maintains effective interpersonal communication and working relationships with all leaders, staff, physicians, and stakeholders. * Completes patient rounding on a regular basis, and timely patient complaint follow-up in a thorough and confidential manner, maintaining adherence to employment laws and contract guidelines. * Maximizes customer satisfaction by treating our customers with respect and responding to their needs in a prompt, friendly, and courteous manner. * Collaborates with therapy team, support staff, the interdisciplinary leadership team, and Program Director to drive collaboration across disciplines and specialty areas for consistent delivery of safe, well-coordinated rehabilitation care and consistent application of departmental policies, procedures, and standard work. * Provides input to team leads on performance of therapy staff as relates to compliance with operational processes and procedures. Holds team leads accountable for consistency in application of policies and procedures. * Serves as facilitator to develop solutions to address workflow inefficiencies. * Ensures compliance with regulatory guidelines including CARF, Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), The Joint Commission and State of Michigan. * Seeks ways to continually improve the value of our services and maximize our customers' rehabilitation potential by actively participating in activities such as in services, staff meetings, teams meetings, and continuing education courses. * Collaborates with clinical team and other leaders to assure that patient schedules and therapy schedules operate in efficient alignment with patient census to achieve expected productivity and compliance with therapy intensity rules for inpatient rehabilitation facilities. * Completes payroll responsibilities in a timely and thorough manner. * Assists Program Director in budgeting. * Assists Program Director in evaluating requests from therapy staff for hospital payment for orthoses and prosthetic supplies. * Demonstrates competence in relevant software and hardware required to meet job responsibilities. * Attends meetings as designated. * Consistently exemplifies and mentors others to Mary Free Bed Standards of Behavior as observed by department leadership. * Demonstrates/ role model behaviors in caring, communication, respect and professionalism. * Leadership Must-Haves will be followed for patient and staff interactions: * We'll embrace all people by: Treating everyone with dignity and respect. Essential Job Qualifications * Possesses and demonstrates competence in an identified area of clinical expertise. * Equivalent degrees are accepted provided they are granted from an accredited school * Current professional license with the State of Michigan in the area of practice is required * Experience working in acute rehabilitation preferred. * Excellent verbal and written communication skills, expressing self in a clear, concise, and professional manner. * Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with the interdisciplinary team members and family. * Excellent time management and organizational skills.
