The Additive Manufacturing (AM) Technician supports all aspects of AM activities inside the SAE Government Technologies AMCC facility using various advanced manufacturing machines (LPBF, DED, and MELD). Such activities will be performed in support of US Army requirements and SAE GT objectives.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Work directly from CAD models to produce AM components in a variety of different metals
- Perform machine setup, post processing, ordering raw materials and managing new and completed work request
- Maintain schedules in conjunction with safety and quality in a fast-paced environment
- Keep a clean, organized, and thoroughly maintained workspace
- Complete production builds per operating schedule, and support part flow through process as needed to support business goals for quality and on-time delivery metrics
- Observe, log, and report new and continuing printer and part quality related issues
- Operate forklifts and remote-controlled cranes to safely move product around the facility
- Inspect material and make notations of any exceptions and/or damages for all inbound and outbound shipments
- Monitor and maintain warehouse equipment and machinery
OTHER NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Assist with the operation and maintenance of the AMCC facility.
- Assist with program planning and facility planning as needed.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- 2+ years of experience in manufacturing environment, operating, and working with high-tech machinery (5-Axis CNC machines, additive manufacturing, welding, AM polymer machines, robotic welding, CMM or similar)
- Experience in one or more of the following 3D modeling software packages: SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Creo
- Excellent mechanical skills, including the use of both power and hand tools
- Hands-on experience with precision measuring instruments (micrometers, calipers, height gages, precision scales, etc.)
- Must have the ability to lift, push, pull, and carry items up to 50 pounds
- Ability to stand, sit, or be in other physically demanding positions for long periods of time
- Strong communication skills and ability to read and provide feedback on technical documents
- Demonstrate ability to work with government, and small businesses to provide technical approaches and assistance to solve technical challenges
- Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance
- Associate's degree in additive manufacturing, mechanical engineering technology or equivalent, or equivalent certification (CAMT), or equivalent combination of education and experience
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- 1+ years working as an AM technician with either LPBF, DED, or MELD machines (EOS M290, 3D Systems DMP Flex 350, and RPMI 222XR)
- Experience in a startup or agile development environment
- AS in Mechanical, Electrical, or Optical Technology, or related field
- Familiarity working in labs and exposure to lab activities in various technical fields
- Experience working with Advanced Manufacturing and Reverse Engineering is a plus
- Knowledge of CNC programming a plus
- Experience with metal powders is a plus
- Bachelor's degree in engineering or manufacturing-related fields
WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- The work is conducted on-site at the AMCC facility and includes office, lab, and manufacturing environments, utilizing associated tools and equipment.
- The role will require the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses, gloves, safety footwear, and, in some cases, respiratory and/or hearing protection.
- Work involves potential exposure to hazardous materials, including metal powders and airborne particulates, as well as moderate to high noise levels typical of advanced manufacturing environments.
- May be exposed to temperature fluctuations in the manufacturing space.
- Activities involve standing, sitting, repetitive motions, lifting, pushing, pulling, or carrying up to 50 pounds, and may include bending, reaching, or climbing as required.
- Must comply with safety and emergency response protocols associated with hazardous material usage.
- Activities will be alongside SAE and United States Government personnel, requiring professional conduct at all times.
- Occasional travel may be required, but is expected to be less than 10%.
