Wages

$21.00 - $23.00 per hour

Benefits

Paid Earned Sick and Safe Time (ESST); COPAL sponsors a retirement plan with 6% employer contribution after 90 days of service and immediate vesting.

Schedule

This position is in-person, on-call (working about 5 hours per week), and may include evening and/or weekend hours. Travel is required to and from community settings, as well as shelters and the homes of program participants and their families.

A Typical Day in the Life...

A typical day as COPAL's Engagement and Event Assistant provides an opportunity to support community events and engagement activities that promote health and wellness, leadership, civic participation, and social equity within Latine communities in the Southeast Initiative in Rochester. Responsibilities will include the following:



  • Supporting community events hosted or supported by COPAL.
  • Promoting COPAL's services, activities, and events.
  • Distributing program materials to community members.
  • Participating in or facilitating community conversations.
  • Leading or participating in community engagement activities.
  • Entering data collected during events.
  • Documenting the needs and concerns of community members.
  • Completing surveys with community members as needed.
  • Learning and articulating the foundational concepts of COPAL and those of specific units, including the mission, vision, and principles of Jemez, and COPAL's political platform.
  • Learning and becoming proficient in COPAL's Customer Relationship Manager (CRM) systems and tech tools, as needed, based on the position's expectations.



Who You Are



  • You are fluent in Spanish and conversational in English.
  • You have previous experience in community work.
  • You have previous experience in group facilitation.
  • You demonstrate the ability to plan and organize community events and activities.
  • You demonstrate a willingness to learn a variety of tasks.
  • You possess excellent communication skills.
  • You demonstrate a thorough understanding of nonprofit practices.
  • You have the ability to work independently, establish priorities, and meet deadlines.
  • You have knowledge and experience working with diverse groups of people from lower socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • You are competent in MS Office: Word, Access, Publisher, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • You have the ability to maintain good working relationships with coworkers and the public.
  • You use good judgment in recognizing the scope of your authority.
  • You are able to travel to sites within a 60-mile radius of the office.
  • You have a valid driver's license, access to reliable transportation, and the ability to meet COPAL's driving record requirements. Please note that if the license was not issued in the state of Minnesota, you have 60 days after becoming a Minnesota resident in which to apply for your Minnesota driver's license or permit (not applicable for new hires living out of state).
