Position Summary Information






Primary Purpose
The Senior Assistant Director of Admission plays a critical role in achieving undergraduate enrollment and tuition revenue goals for University of the Pacific. This position is responsible for the development, implementation, and assessment of targeted recruitment strategies within assigned territories-primarily Northern California-with preference for candidates residing in the Greater San Francisco Bay Area.
The role requires a balance of strategic planning, student and family engagement, data-informed decision-making, and collaborative relationship-building with key stakeholders. This position serves as a representative of the University, requiring exceptional interpersonal skills, cultural competence, and a commitment to providing an exemplary customer service experience to prospective students and their families.
The Senior Assistant Director may also have supervisory responsibilities for other recruitment staff and will contribute to the ongoing refinement of the University's undergraduate admission strategies.
Essential Functions
Recruitment & Marketing

  • Develop and execute territory-specific recruitment plans, including high school and community college visits, college fairs, and special events.
  • Cultivate strong, trust-based relationships with students, parents, families, school counselors, alumni, and community partners.
  • Provide personalized advising to prospective students and their families, offering guidance on academic programs, the application process, financial aid, and the transition to college life.
  • Represent the University professionally in diverse settings, from one-on-one conversations to large-scale presentations.



Application Review

  • Evaluate 30-50 applications per day during peak periods, including academic records, test scores, essays, and recommendations.
  • Make holistic admission and scholarship decisions.
  • Serve on admissions committees for specialized programs.

Data & Reporting

  • Utilize multiple platforms-including Slate, Marketview, and Microsoft Office-to track recruitment activity and measure progress toward enrollment targets.
  • Analyze data to identify trends, evaluate effectiveness, and refine recruitment strategies.
  • Prepare reports for internal stakeholders to support strategic decision-making.

Customer Service & Communication

  • Respond promptly and professionally to inquiries from prospective students and their families via phone, email, text, and other communication channels.
  • Deliver engaging and informative presentations about the University's programs, services, and opportunities, both on campus and in the community.
  • Ensure that all interactions reflect the University's commitment to student-centered service and inclusive excellence.

Event Planning

  • Organize and execute events such as open houses and admitted student receptions.
  • Collaborate with faculty on special events for targeted populations.


Management

  • May supervise regional assistant directors or other recruitment staff.
  • Manage budget decisions for territory recruitment activities.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • Five (5) years of work experience in undergraduate admissions or a related field.
  • One (1) year of work experience as a supervisor.

  • Bilingual skills.
  • Excellent public speaking and interpersonal communication abilities.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to work independently.
  • Comfort with irregular hours, extensive travel, and technology platforms.
  • Knowledge of University of the Pacific's programs.
  • Positive attitude.
  • Experience and sensitivity in working with people of diverse backgrounds and cultures.
  • Demonstrated experience in advancing social justice, equity, and inclusion in a university setting.
  • Ability to engage and integrate culturally responsive practices and knowledge in their work.

Physical Requirements

Duties require constant sitting and repetitive motion while using computer keyboard and phone. Frequent walking, standing and simple grasping. Occasional climbing stairs, walking across campus, stooping and reaching. Constant communication using both spoken and written means. Occasional lifting up to 25 pounds.

Work Environment/Work Week Travel:

  • Based in Greater San Francisco Bay Area
  • Primarily remote/home-office work.
  • Extensive travel: 8-10 weeks in fall, 2-4 weeks in spring, 1-2 weeks in summer.


Valid driver's license required. Incumbent must also be able to meet the University's fleet rules and be eligible to drive for University business. The University and its insurance carrier reserves the right to exclude applicants based on their driving record.
Hiring Range $77,000-$87,000; We consider factors such as, but not limited to, scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's qualifications, internal equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
