Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit |
The department of Nutrition is located in the School of Health and Human Sciences (
HHS), which aims to inspire and equip students, faculty, and staff to transform institutions and make the world healthier and safer.
HHS has seven other academic departments (Communication Sciences and Disorders, Community and Therapeutic Recreation, Human Development and Family Studies, Kinesiology, Public Health Education, Social Work and Peace and Conflict Studies) and two interdisciplinary programs in Genetic Counseling, and Gerontology. The School also houses
UNCG Middle College, which opened its doors in 2011 to high school students interested in exploring health sciences. The diversity of the faculty and students of
HHS is 20% and 49%, respectively, from non-white ethnic groups, well above the national average in both categories.
General information on the Department of Nutrition at
UNC-Greensboro:
- Eight tenured/tenure-track Faculty lines, three Academic Professional lines and one Lecturer.
- Three undergraduate concentrations - Human Nutrition and Dietetics, Nutrition Science, and Community Nutrition and Wellness (over 100 undergraduate students).
- Three graduate programs - M.S. (thesis and non-thesis); MS/Dietetic Internship and Ph.D. (over 40 graduate students).
- Two ACEND-accredited dietetics programs: a Didactic Program in Dietetics and a post baccalaureate Dietetic Internship Program.
- Faculty research programs that address diverse problems in nutrition and include the following: (1) maternal and infant nutrition; (2) women's health; (3) nutrition education, food insecurity issues, parenting/family and nutrition practices; (4) the transport, metabolism, and function of nutrients and phytochemicals; (5) the role of diet in inflammation, brain function and cancer; and (6) impact of nutrition on physical performance.
- Contemporary human nutrition research facilities including personal interview and focus group rooms, food preparation and demonstration lab, and computer laboratory with access to the Minnesota Nutrition Data System Software. Adjoining these facilities is the Human Nutrition Laboratory which is equipped with BOD POD and DEXA, a room for drawing human blood samples, and a room/equipment for measuring physical fitness levels.
- The department also has contemporary animal facilities and well-equipped laboratories for conducting preclinical research.

The University of North Carolina at Greensboro (
UNCG) is seeking a highly motivated and qualified Collegiate Sports Dietitian to join our Athletic and Nutrition Departments.
This full-time, 9-month position will primarily focus on providing personalized nutrition counseling to athletes and athletic teams and coaches. Additionally, the successful candidate will serve as a preceptor for the MS/Dietetic Internship (MS/DI) program, collaborating directly with the DI Director and the Athletics department. The qualified candidate will be a NC Licensed Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (
RDN) with a graduate degree and certification from the Board Certification as a Specialist in Sports Dietetics (
CSSD). |
Minimum Qualifications |
Must be a Licensed Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) holding a Master's or PhD degree in Nutrition or a related field.- Current CSSD certification preferred or completion within 2 years of employment.
- 1-3 years of experience in sports nutrition, preferably in a collegiate or professional sports setting.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with athletes, coaches, and other professionals.
- Experience in mentoring and supervising dietetic interns preferred.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
