Job Description Summary

The Laboratory Specialist II serves as a critical on-site resource for all aspects of laboratory space management, cold storage unit oversight, and temperature monitoring alarm resolution. This role demands strong agility in problem-solving, exceptional adaptability, and upward mobility potential. The associate is expected to work flexible hours, including weekends and after-hours, and to be available for on-call responsibilities 24/7. This position is pivotal in ensuring seamless laboratory operations, supporting research continuity, and coordinating transition activities between third-party vendors and Scientific Operations for operational efficiency.

This position will be located at La Jolla/San Diego and will not have the ability to be located remotely.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

  • Laboratory Management Activities:
    • Organize lab space and ensure it is well maintained. Lead the campus wide clean out.
    • Manage cold space, incubator, bench space assignment, keeping the user-list up to date.
    • Assist with associates onboarding/offboarding.
    • Maintain and update the San Diego Lab operation SharePoint site.
    • Act as a single point of contact for cold space, incubator space, fume hood, TC room space assignment and logistic inquiries.
  • Communication and collaboration:
    • Collaborate with third-party service providers to ensure they meet operational support requirements and maintain service level.
  • Operational Excellence:
    • Drive operational excellence, competence and sustainability best practices for all supported programs and initiatives.
    • Work closely across R&D teams to ensure operational success and maintain relationships within the scientific community.
    • Identify potential areas for improvement and implement best practices to enhance efficiency and reduce cost
    • Adherence to Novartis policy and guidelines -Stakeholder or project feedback

Role Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in relevant discipline or equivalent work experience may be considered
  • Background in lab operations, good organizational skills, and the ability to collaborate with various stakeholders to ensure smooth and efficient lab functioning.
  • A person of action, proactive, with effective communication skills, and the ability to make informed decisions.
  • Ability toprioritize and juggle multiple taskssimultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency inIT tools (such as Microsoft) is required, along with the capacity to quickly learn and master internal processes.
  • Strong understanding of the processes and protocols required in a scientific research organization.
  • Broad knowledge of discipline, methods and technologies
  • Able to lift and carry 20 lbs.
  • May necessitate working flexible hours outside our normal schedule, including weekends and after hours. This position is on call 24/7.

The salary for this position is expected to range between $63,600 and $118,200 per year.

The final salary offered is determined based on factors like, but not limited to, relevant skills and experience, and upon joining Novartis will be reviewed periodically. Novartis may change the published salary range based on company and market factors.

Your compensation will include a performance-based cash incentive and, depending on the level of the role, eligibility to be considered for annual equity awards.
