Position Title: OB/GYN Physician

Location: Gallup Indian Medical Center (Gallup, NM)

Employment Class: Part Time- Hourly (As Needed)

***Position is contingent upon award of contract.

Position Summary:

OB/GYN Physician services to support hospitals, clinics and other healthcare facilities of the Navajo Area Indian Health Service within the Gallup Indian Medical Center.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

* Provide comprehensive OB/GYN care to patients on both an inpatient and outpatient basis that meets national standards of care, as well as departmental guidelines/protocols for safe and evidence-based medical care.

* Provide OB/GYN consultation to other providers as required by medical staff bylaws and will seek consultation when indicated and coordinates specialty care to ensure that health care needs are met in a comprehensive fashion.

* Attend outpatient clinic sessions, evaluate patient complaints, make diagnoses, design treatment plans, educate the patient and family about their condition, and will initiate care.

* Prescribe medications appropriately, following federal and US Public Health Service Law and Policies and agrees to assure appropriateness of drug therapy.

* Will assure that drug therapy is safe, efficacious, and cost effective.

* Standards of care developed and adopted by the professional staff of the facility shall be the criteria for appropriateness of drug therapy.

* Screen the patient health record to avoid inappropriate drug interactions and monitor patients for the appropriateness of therapy.

* Provide inpatient OB/GYN Surgical Services in the operating room at GIMC, including minimally invasive laparoscopic surgical procedures.

* Perform in accordance with the approved privileges through the credentialing process.

* Abide by the Gallup Service Unit Medical and Dental Staff Bylaws and Rules and Regulations.

* Agree to participate in the GIMC, OB/GYN peer review system and to make practice modifications in accordance with the peer review group's findings and recommendations.

* Participate in the GIMC performance improvement program within the scope of clinical activity. This includes adhering to departmental policies and working with discharge planning/Case Management to help facilitate timely accommodation of patient needs and prompt dispositions.

* Agree to maintain patient records in the electronic health record. Inpatient records require close attention to documentation policies for frequent and content of note, dictated summaries, abbreviation use, timeliness for processing and legibility (when applicable).

* Signatures in all places should be clarified with a printed or stamped name beneath the scripted entry in accordance with GIMC and OB/GYN Department policies.

* Consult with other surgeons or physicians from other medical disciplines whenever necessary to more clearly define a patient's problem and seek assistance to safely provide the necessary medical or surgical interventions.

* The department Supervisor and/or designee will manage the Contractor's personnel clinic schedule.

* The patient list will include patients from all age groups with a variety of OB/GYN needs.

* Carefully prepare for surgical cases by notifying the operating room personnel of any special equipment or supply need.

* All special orders or requests must be handled or coordinated with the personnel in the operating room.

* Under no circumstance should the OB/GYN Physician make plans directly with an equipment vendor since these bypass the authorized procurement procedures, an act that violates federal law.

* Ask to inspect any unfamiliar equipment in advance.

* Personnel within the OB/GYN department are required to maintain an appropriate professional demeanor in the presence of patients and with each other.

* Harmony and good communication between the staff are necessary to maintain the best patient care environment and all staff members are expected to contribute to a positive milieu.

* Violent language, profanity, and any threatening behaviors are specifically prohibited.

* Shall manage all patient information in accordance with HIPAA standards, Privacy Act, and IHS Service Unit and/or Health Center specific policies and protocols.

Education, Certification & Experience Requirements

* Bachelor's degree or higher in are Biology, Chemistry, or Sociology

* A current, valid, unrestricted license to practice medicine and surgery in a state, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a Territory of the United States.

* Current certification by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

* Board Certified, shall be in good standing with the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

* Must have ACLS or BLS certification.

* 24 months' experience as an OB/GYN Physician

* Subject to character investigation as required by Public Law 101-630, the Indian Health Service Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention Act, prior to performance of the contract.

Physical Requirements/Working Environment

* Work Flexibility. As directed by the Supervisor, the OB/GYN Physician will provide call support as needed to support patient care. Currently, weekday call hours are Monday to Thursday 0730-0730 (24 hours each), and weekend call hours are Friday to Monday 0730-0730 (72 hours). On Saturdays, Sundays and holidays, call hours start at 0800.
