Position Overview

The Supervisor, LAS Operations Training is responsible for leading a team of trainers dedicated to enhancing employee performance through innovative and effective training programs, with a specialized focus on both automation systems and laboratory equipment. This role ensures that all training activities align with regulatory requirements and organizational goals. The Supervisor oversees the development, coordination, and implementation of training initiatives that support operational excellence, equipment proficiency, and automation efficiency.

Training methods include a blend of instructor-led training (ILT), hands-on equipment demonstrations, e-learning modules, simulation-based learning, job aids, competency assessments, and on-the-job training (OJT). The Supervisor also integrates asynchronous learning platforms, microlearning, and scenario-based exercises to ensure knowledge retention and skill application. By fostering a culture of continuous learning and technical expertise, this position plays a critical role in driving quality, compliance, and performance across laboratory operations.

Essential Duties

Include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Lead and manage a team of trainers, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and regulatory standards.
  • Effectively manage, support, and guide your team, including, but not limited to, delegating tasks and responsibilities, assessing employee performance and providing helpful feedback and training opportunities.
  • Consistently demonstrate exceptional leadership qualities, including, but not limited to, the ability to attract and retain the best team, foster a culture of high performance, lead with integrity, humility, accountability, and courage, and set a clear vision to energize teams towards the future.
  • Coach and mentor team members in their professional development.
  • Communicate training schedules, goals, and expectations clearly and effectively.
  • Develop team capabilities in training methodologies, learning technologies, and instructional design.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to design and deliver impactful learning solutions.
  • Analyze data from feedback, quality metrics, and non-conformance trends to identify training needs.
  • Design and implement innovative training programs using both synchronous and asynchronous methods.
  • Evaluate training effectiveness using qualitative and quantitative metrics.
  • Develop and implement retraining or corrective action plans in collaboration with adjacent team leaders.
  • Coordinate training logistics, including equipment reservations and vendor partnerships.
  • Support the development of internal training for equipment repair and maintenance.
  • Provide input on SOPs, workflows, and documentation updates to ensure compliance.
  • Respond to technical inquiries within scope of training expertise.
  • Conduct and document competency assessments and proficiency testing.
  • Maintain accurate training records in compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to ensure consistency in training practices across departments.
  • Use systems thinking to identify root causes of training gaps and propose effective solutions.
  • Build and maintain collaborative relationships with operational teams and stakeholders.
  • Embrace and champion change, adapting quickly to new information and evolving needs.
  • Exhibit excellent interpersonal and communication skills across all levels of the organization.

  • Ability to work on a computer and phone simultaneously.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds for approximately 5% of a typical working day.
  • Ability to comply with any applicable personal protective equipment requirements.
  • Ability to travel 15% of working time away from work location, may include overnight/weekend travel.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (e.g. mechanical, electrical, industrial), Training and Development or Life Sciences degree related to the essential duties of the job; or Associates Degree in Engineering, Technology, Electronics, Molecular Biology, or a similar Engineering or Life Sciences related field and 2 years of relevant experience in lieu of a bachelor's degree.
  • 4+ years' experience in training facilitation, learning & development or another training-related role.
  • 2+ years of direct or indirect leadership experience overseeing professional-level employees.
  • 2+ years' operating or servicing laboratory or medical equipment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs, including but not limited to: Microsoft Teams, Outlook, Excel
  • Demonstrated ability to perform the Essential Duties of the position with or without accommodation.

  • Authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in the maintenance and repair of complex laboratory equipment and automation systems.
  • Experience in a GMP and/or ISO 13485 environment.
  • Experience with CAP/CLIA and/or FDA Regulations
  • Certificate in CPTM (Certified Professional in Training Management)
  • Demonstrated understanding of clinical laboratory service operations and activities.

Salary Range:

$48,000.00 - $180,000.00

The annual base salary shown is for this position located in US - WI - Madison on a full-time basis. In addition, this position is bonus eligible.
