The Position:

ESi is looking to fill the position of Staff Consultant in our Thermal Group in Scottsdale, Arizona. This position is responsible for conducting origin & cause investigations of fire and explosion incidents, including site inspection and documentation, evidence examination, research, analysis, testing and reporting. The position will involve evaluations of mechanical systems, mechanical equipment, appliances, motor vehicles, etc. The candidate for this position will be responsible for conducting investigations, codes and standards reviews, document reviews as well as site and laboratory inspections including documentation, evidence examination, research, analysis, testing and reporting. The position will also involve providing testimony in court proceedings, both at depositions and trials, as necessary. Candidate will market the company and self to obtain and/or maintain client base and build business. Plan, manage and coordinate activities for client projects to ensure that goals/objectives of projects are accomplished within prescribed timeframe and funding parameters by performing the following duties personally or with the assistance of other consulting/engineering staff.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform engineering calculations involving fires, explosions, combustion, thermodynamics, fluid dynamics and heat transfer
  • Conduct fire and explosion scene examinations
  • Plan and conduct experimental programs, including both bench and full-scale fire and explosion tests
  • Prepare reports, project summaries and evaluations of expert opinions
  • Perform technical literature reviews
  • Manage technical projects

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Mechanical, Chemical, Aerospace Engineering (or a related field) required
  • Previous experience conducting experimental programs including developing and identifying appropriate instrumentation, set-up of data acquisition equipment, post-processing of data collected
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
  • Desire to work as part of multi-disciplinary teams
  • Commitment to professional development including professional engineering licensure, publishing technical papers, and obtaining professional certification

Other Skills/Abilities or Other Qualifications:

  • Ability to interact with clients in a professional manner and develop business both internally and externally.
  • Must be available to travel 50% as part of the national practice of which 33% will be field/site inspections.
  • Must be able to work or travel on weekends and holidays as required.
