McGraw-Hill Education, the leading provider of digital and print educational materials, is looking for a creative, innovative, strategic Senior Instructional Designer, Assessment and Personalization.

You will be a valuable member of a collaborative group of Instructional Designers, closely partnering with teams focused on content, product management, assessment, personalization, and data science. As part of this team, you will create robust digital tools, curriculum and learning solutions in a variety of formats that are used by millions of educators and students every day. The Senior Instructional Designer is a digital savvy assessment and personalization expert, responsible and accountable for assembling high-quality assessments and personalization strategies.

This is a remote position open to applicants authorized to work for any employer within the United States. This is a Project Status Worker (PSW) role with an end date of 07/31/2026.

What you will be doing:

  • Collaborate with cross-functional team members to define and build both the assessments and the personalization strategies for the Science product lines, focusing heavily on the technical and human-centered design aspects of the strategy and build.
  • Be the main point of contact with the McGraw Hill Assessment, Data Science, and Personalization teams.
  • Provide leadership and expertise on authoring in our assessment authoring tools including specific item types and authoring processes.
  • Collaborate with the Assessment, Data Science and Personalization teams to ideate, test, and iteratively improve new technologies and processes as they relate to science assessment and personalization development.
  • Provide expertise on metadata strategy and tagging as it relates to assessment and personalization.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional team members to identify, test, troubleshoot, define, and follow up on technical bugs and enhancements as they arise in assessment authoring tools and the platform.
  • Iterate innovative and scalable approaches for process and digital integration in products. Identify efficiencies in processes and templates.
  • Provide leadership with accessibility, understand compliance criteria and how to incorporate accessible best practices during product build.

We're looking for someone with:

  • Bachelor'sorMastersdegree in Instructional Technology, Instructional Design, or related fieldrequired.
  • 3 - 5 year's experience working in digital content development that includes assessments.
  • Understanding of assessment strategy, learning science, and knowledge of mastery-based learning (or competency-based learning).
  • Experience designing valid and reliable assessments.
  • Experience with assessment authoring tools, metadata, learning management systems, and content management systems.
  • Understanding of human-centered design and user experience.
  • Comfortable or willing to work with data science reports.
  • Accessibility experience preferred.

The pay range for this position is between $62,000 - $78,000 annually, however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and location.
