Role Summary:
Reporting to the Operations & Customer Service Manager, the Application Engineer is a key member of the Forberg Smith sales team. The Application Engineer will be responsible for supporting sales staff with technical expertise and product knowledge, growing project business by assisting with the sales process and maintaining strong and trusting relationships with manufacturers and customers.


Exciting work you will do:
The essential duties and responsibilities of the Application Engineer will consist of, but are not limited to, the following:


  • Sell company products and services to customers calling into the branch by gathering information about their needs, providing technical assistance when required, quoting, soliciting orders and suggesting additional products in a fast-paced multi-tasking environment.
  • Clarify customer's understanding of products and services, answering questions and offering relevant information.
  • Review applications that consist of but are not limited to: valve, flow, gamma and level product sizing and selection.
  • Field visits to the customer for relationship development as needed to optimize the quoting and ordering process.
  • Communicate project development to the customer, outside sales representatives, manufacturers, and location manager. Recommend and/or analyze materials and equipment required for project.
  • Stay current on new and evolving product offerings; utilize knowledge in selling activities
  • Read customer specifications and select correct product
  • Maintain a positive, empathetic, and professional attitude toward customers
  • Communicate with customers and vendors through various channels
  • Participate in sales and product training sessions
  • Explain and articulate product features and applications
  • Manage project data in system as required
  • Understand and use Engineering platform within the system
  • Perform other duties and projects as assigned

What you'll need:


  • Work Experience: Entry Level engineering
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in engineering
  • Analytics/Computer Skills: Critical thinking and an eye for detail; competent with MS Office and Excel; ability to read, analyze and interpret technical documents and bid specifications
  • Organization Skills: Highly organized and detail-oriented; ability to multi-task and shift priorities as needed; ability to work in fast-paced, continuously evolving, and at times ambiguous environment
  • Communication Skills: High level of communication and negotiating skills; relationship building skills
  • Physical, Mental and Visual Skills: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.   • Physical Environment: Normal office environment
  • Travel Requirements: Must be able to travel; customer visitation and offsite work activities

Qualifications we prefer but don't require:


  • Work Experience: Background in industrial and institutional sales and/or B2B Sales
  • Analytics/Computer Skills: Experience with a prospecting system like; Zoominfo, LinkedIn, Etc.
