Summary:

The Physician provides direct medical services to students and staff at FLETC training sites. This role supports the health and readiness of law enforcement trainees and personnel by delivering high-quality, compliant care and ensuring proper documentation and coordination for occupational health incidents.

There will be one Physician assigned to each FLETC site: Artesia, Charleston, and Glynco.


Responsibilities

Essential Job Functions:

  • Provide equal access to care for staff members in "student" status, verifying training program/class name and number
  • Prescribe medications listed in Part 9, Attachment X - Prescriptions for Common Ailments
  • Advise students that prescriptions not listed in Attachment X must be filled off-site at their own expense
  • Ensure medications listed in Attachment X are stocked at all times with appropriate reorder points
  • Educate patients on procedures for work-related injuries and illnesses, including:
    • Completion of the TAIRS electronic questionnaire
    • Completion of the Health Unit's portion of TAIRS within 24 hours of treatment
    • Guidance on Workers' Compensation processes and eComp forms (CA-1 and CA-2)
    • Clarification of responsibility for medical expenses not covered by FLETC, the employing agency, or OWCP
    • Referral to private physicians for serious occupational injuries requiring return to duty station
  • Maintain accurate and timely medical documentation
  • Collaborate with other healthcare professionals and contract staff to ensure continuity of care

Qualifications

Necessary Skills and Knowledge:

  • Familiarity with federal occupational health procedures and documentation systems (e.g., TAIRS, eComp)
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced training environment

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Have a valid, unencumbered medical license in the state for which they are hired as per Part 9, Technical Exhibit X, DHS 248-02 Credentialing Policy Directive
  • Minimum have three (3) years medical field experience, including urgent care, within the last five (5) years
  • Possess a Physician's valid Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Number and professional liability with tail insurance.
  • Shall provide evidence of board certification in Family Practice, Internal Medicine, Emergency Medicine, or preferably Occupational and Environmental Medicine
  • Must have a Public Trust clearance

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in nursing; graduate degree in nursing of related field preferred
