About the Position

The Civil Senior Attorney for Behavioral Health is responsible for representing the Maricopa County Attorney's Office (MCAO) in hearings on petitions for mental health treatment, reviewing cases involving danger to others, and providing periodic legal training to crisis management workers involved in the civil commitment process. In addition, this position is responsible for assisting and mentoring line attorneys when new or unique situations arise in Civil Mental Health Court. This position is based primarily out of the Valleywise Behavioral Health Hospital and Court location in Mesa, although it will at times require travel to the other Behavioral Health Court locations

We Require

  • Juris Doctor or Doctor of Jurisprudence degree from an American Bar Association (ABA) approved law school

  • Six years of civil practice experience

  • You must have a current Arizona Bar license and number and be in good standing with Arizona Bar Association

  • Valid Arizona driver's license upon hire

  • The Maricopa County Attorney's Office requires a thorough background check of all successful candidates and is authorized to test prospective employees for the presence of illegally accessed drugs. Drug testing is conducted once an offer has been extended and before placement
