EMERGING TECHNOLOGIES INTERN
INNOVATION AND TECHNOLOGY
CITY OF WORCESTER

The City of Worcester is seeking qualified applicants for an Emerging Technologies Intern in the Innovation and Technology Department. The Emerging Technologies Intern will assist the Department of Innovation and Technology in enhancing the City's technology portfolio. This position supports citywide efforts to improve service delivery through innovative technology solutions. Under the supervision of the Chief Information Officer, the Emerging Technologies Intern will focus on projects related to data management, analytics, and artificial intelligence.

ESSENTIAL ELEMENTS:



  • Exploration of enterprise data management platforms and practices to support the City's strategic data-related goals.
  • Written assessments and recommendations to guide the city in developing a sustainable, secure, and impactful data strategy.
  • Identify opportunities to integrate AI, including written assessments and recommendations to help the city in thinking through a sustainable, secure and impactful strategy to deliver on the City's strategic plan
  • Develop prototypes and support the city in "art of the possible" activities that support efforts to provide sustainable, secure and impactful solutions to support City operations and public needs.


REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:



  • Experience with data pipelines and ETL processes
  • Comprehension of data lake concepts
  • Comprehension of PII and processes to protect sensitive information
  • Knowledge of diverse technology tools and platforms.
  • Excellent organizational skills, the ability to plan and prioritize work.
  • Possess a high degree of attention to detail
  • Knowledgeable in archival principles, protocols and standards.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Regular onsite attendance is required
  • Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and able to manage tasks independently
  • Strong problem-solving and technical troubleshooting abilities


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:



  • Must be enrolled in a graduate-level program in Data Analytics, Computer Science, Information Systems or related field
  • Excellent communication skills


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:



  • Familiarity with PowerBI
  • Familiarity with geographic information
  • Familiarity with Microsoft CoPilot Studio


SALARY: $15.00 hourly, part-time, non-benefitted.
