Job Summary:
The Laboratory Education Coordinator collaborates with leadership and laboratory Associates to plan, develop, and implement educational opportunities for laboratories in all shifts, across the healthcare system. This includes the on-boarding and continuing education of Associates, coordinating with various institutes of higher education to provide clinical experience for their students, policy review, protocol development, and maintaining CAP readiness. The Education Coordinator is a clinical expert and is expected to maintain skills and competencies to support the lab as needed.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
- Manages and oversees both formal and informal education processes and programs, including new Associate onboarding.
- Serves as a resource to the Pathology department and clinical staff.
- Identifies and establishes clinical learning opportunities for Associates. Implements and tracks progress in partnership with laboratory leadership.
- Determines the educational activities required for all new laboratory related procedures or equipment.
- Coordinates the evaluation of equipment for the laboratories.
- Serves as a liaison between area educational facilities, to provide clinical experience and shadowing opportunities for phlebotomy and laboratory students
- Administers the MediaLab software system, which houses laboratory related training, competencies, etc.
- Identifies and presents opportunities of improvement for laboratory protocols/procedures.
- Coordinates all mandatory skills and competencies relevant to the Laboratory departments, including updating and maintaining the CBOTs.
- Performs the duties of an MLS/MT when necessary.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in clinical laboratory science/Medical Technology, required, with appropriate certification or eligibility to certify.
- ASCP, or equivalent, MLS/MT, required.
- Minimum three (3) years' experience in Medical Technology, required.
- Experience in a training or educational role within pathology or laboratory operations is strongly preferred.
- Strong understanding of laboratory operations, quality control, and regulatory compliance.
- Demonstrated written and oral communication skills required.
- Exemplary interpersonal communication skills required.
