The Chief of Staff to the Executive Deputy Commissioner plays a key role in managing and overseeing the administrative divisions critical to helping NYCDOT achieve its mission. These include Human Resources & Facilities Management; Budget and Capital Program Management; Agency Chief Contracting Officer; Federal & State Grants Administration; Fiscal Affairs; Information, Technology, and Telecommunications; Analytics and Performance Management; and the Auditor General. Working closely with the Commissioner's and First Deputy Commissioner's teams, the Chief of Staff to the Executive Deputy Commissioner will help advance agency priorities and troubleshoot issues as they arise. The Chief of Staff will be responsible for meeting planning and management, notetaking, and following up on agreed upon tasks. This individual will draft and edit high level memos, correspondence, reports, and PowerPoint presentations for diverse audiences, and serve as a liaison to other City agencies and City Hall. This position requires the ability to exercise good judgement on when to elevate issues and use confidentiality.

Minimum Qualifications

Admission to the New York State Bar; and four years of recent full-time responsible, relevant, satisfactory legal experience subsequent to admission to any bar, eighteen months of which must have been in the supervision of other attorneys, in an administrative, managerial or executive capacity, or performing highly complex and significant legal work.

Incumbents must remain Members of the New York State Bar in good standing for the duration of this employment.

Preferred Skills

The selected candidate should be organized, highly motivated, with impeccable written and verbal communication skills and the able to work well independently and as part of a team.
Preference will be given to those with a proven ability to be analytical, strategic, and possess a strong understanding of the city budget process. Familiarity with DOT structures and operations are a must.
