Senior Insights Analyst - Data & Analytics

The Senior Insights Analyst is an integral team member on American Public Education, Inc. (APEI) enterprise Data & Analytics team that focuses on enabling future-state business analytics capabilities to drive the organization's strategy and data driven business outcomes. You will be a trusted partner to teammates and stakeholders and be consultative to our business leaders in making key operational and strategic decisions as well as supporting strategic initiatives. Day-to-day analytics delivery including designing, building, and validating managerial analytics data products for the enterprise is also a key part of the role.
Responsibilities:
- Operational & Recurring Reporting - Supporting the ongoing maintenance and development of effective tools and reporting to ensure timely and actionable information availability throughout the education units. Collaborate with the Insights and Decision Support teams to ensure data used for analysis is synchronized with regular reporting, and vice-a-versa.
- Ad Hoc Analysis & Support - Coordinates with stakeholders from various departments to support the use of data and identify insights. Includes collaborating with team members and different stakeholders to refine questions and rely on available reporting when appropriate. Proactively interprets available data and reports to support the operations of the education units. Topics for analysis can cover all aspects of the education units but will focus primarily on marketing, enrollment, and financial operations. Performs independent analysis.
- Forecasting - Refine and develop forecasting tools that provide ongoing visibility to long-term expectations for enrollments. Includes the development and integration of corresponding reporting that provides ongoing visibility to forecasts and projections, as well as evaluation of the effectiveness of those forecasting tools to react to new developments and changes in the organization.
- Design, develop, validate, and implement new decision support and data product solutions that help the business leverage/operationalize analytical insights.
- Use expertise with business and technology to translate business needs into technical requirements helping the data engineers be efficient.
- Proactively identify and assess the quality of pertinent data to be used by APEI for decision making.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- Minimum 5+ years of overall data & analytics experience required with higher education or EdTech industry experience preferred.
- Related industry certifications in data analysis or data modeling preferred.
- Strong expertise in writing and optimizing SQL with experience working within cloud data technologies such as Snowflake preferred.
- Strong expertise in data visualization to convey information effectively.
- Exposure to dimensional data modeling and strong expertise in building BI semantic models within Power BI.
- Strong expertise in DAX with ability to determine when it's best for the database or the BI semantic model to perform calculations.
- Experience with dbt preferred.
- Experience with working with data science/ML methods highly preferred.
- Experience with Python preferred.
- Ability to facilitate interactive design and functional requirement sessions and document outcomes along with enterprise metric definitions.
- Ability to distill complicated concepts into simple presentations to all levels of APEI staff.
- Strong analytical problem-solving, and conceptual skills.
- Able to manage multiple deadlines and projects simultaneously.
- Ability to work in an agile environment.
- Must be a "team player" - able to work with management in developing and implementing new processes and enabling systems. Able to work with end user groups to define application needs and identify feasible solutions.

- Good organizational skills, with the ability to meet objectives and effectively multi-task.
- Ability to work with multiple levels of the organization, both technical and non-technical.

Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Business Analytics, Business Administration, Information Technology or other relevant disciplines required
- Master's degree from an accredited higher education institution preferred
