Mechanic - Gas and Electric Jitney skilled employees are responsible for maintaining and repairing a combination gas-electric, or gas or electric powered jitneys, tractors, and self-propelled yard cranes. They may disassemble, repair and completely rebuild all units of the equipment and hoisting mechanism, and perform miscellaneous repairs and adjustments. Candidate must be able to perform incidental tasks as required to complete the larger task.
Basic Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
- Knowledge and journey-level skill as a Mechanic - Gas and Electric Jitney
- Eight (8) years of documented experience as a Mechanic - Gas and Electric Jitney or a documented and verified U.S. Department of Labor Completion of Apprenticeship Certificate as a Mechanic - Gas and Electric Jitney
- Experience as a Mechanic - Gas and Electric Jitney in a manufacturing environment
- Ability, with or without reasonable accommodation, to work any shift and work overtime, including daily, weekends and holidays as required
- Basic knowledge of mathematics, algebra and physics
- Ability to work from drawings or other specifications to determine work procedures
- Ability to examine parts for defects, such as breakage or excessive wear
- Ability to reassemble equipment after completion of inspections, testing, or repairs
- Ability to observe and test the operation of equipment to diagnose malfunctions, using testing devices
- Ability to operate newly repaired equipment to verify the adequacy of repairs
- Ability to troubleshoot electric systems such as primary and secondary circuit troubleshooting, electronic control, electrical instrumentation, SCR
- Ability to perform preventative maintenance, general motor repair, tune-up, diagnostic engine drive line and hydraulic lubrication, repair adjustment or replacement of starters, governors and power units
- Ability to repair, adjust and install automatic transmissions, standard transmissions, torque converters, and differential assemblies
- Ability to perform steering, drive axle and brake adjustment repair / replacement
- Ability to repair, adjust and install lifts, winches, and hydraulic pumps and motors
