Fire Alarm Inspector 1 is primary responsible to conduct thorough inspections, testing, and maintenance of portable fire extinguishers to ensure compliance with NFPA 10 and local regulations. This position requires a high level of attention to detail and technical proficiency in identifying deficiencies, maintaining accurate records, and performing recharges or replacements as needed. Additionally, the Fire Extinguisher Inspector will assist in routine fire alarm and sprinkler inspections, contributing to the overall functionality and safety of life safety systems. The role emphasizes safety, reliability, and continuous improvement in inspection and maintenance practices.
Responsibilities
- Conduct scheduled inspections and maintenance of portable fire extinguishers in accordance with NFPA 10, manufacturer requirements, and local codes.
- Identify, report, and correct deficiencies or code violations related to fire extinguisher placement, condition, pressure, and accessibility.
- Recharge, replace, or tag fire extinguishers as required to maintain operational readiness and code compliance.
- Accurately document inspection findings, maintenance activities, and deficiencies using standard forms and digital tools.
- Assist fire alarm inspection teams in testing and troubleshooting devices such as smoke detectors, pull stations, and notification appliances in accordance with NFPA 72.
- Support sprinkler inspection teams by testing tamper switches, flow switches, and conducting basic visual inspections in alignment with NFPA 25.
- Participate in job site walkthroughs, collaborate on inspection schedules, and help prepare equipment and tools for daily tasks.
- Communicate clearly with customers, supervisors, and account managers regarding system status, inspection outcomes, and recommended corrective actions.
- Maintain a strong focus on safety, adherence to standards, and quality workmanship in all assigned tasks.
- Stay up to date on fire protection codes, inspection procedures, and product knowledge to ensure ongoing compliance and professional development.

Qualifications
- Minimum of high school diploma and 1+ years of related experience in fire extinguisher inspection or fire protection services.
- Certification or license to inspect and service portable fire extinguishers (as required by local authority having jurisdiction).
- Working knowledge of NFPA 10 and applicable OSHA requirements.
- Basic familiarity with fire alarm and sprinkler systems.
- Strong attention to detail and a professional work ethic.
- Excellent documentation and communication skills.
Certifications:
- Possess NICET Fire Alarm Systems Level I or
- Pass NICET I exam within 90 days of employment.

- Ability to obtain a Secret Clearance.

- Reliable transportation to job sites, which may vary based on customer location and schedule.
- Work overtime as directed by supervisor.

- Must have valid driver's license, good driving records to operate a MC Dean vehicle as part of this job requirement.
- Must consistently report to work on time, work well with other employees to accomplish a common goal, and maintain a safe work environment.
- Must have a reliable means of transportation to arrive on job sites which vary based on the customers' locations and schedules
Abilities:
- Lifts at least 100 pounds at one time and 60 pounds for an extended period of time.
- Relocates a 12 foot stepladder without assistance.
- Works at various heights up to 60 feet and can climb and maintain balance on scaffolds, aerial lifts, catwalks and all types of ladders.
- Walks, climbs, lifts, squats, crawls, kneels, pushes, pulls and reaches overhead on a routine and repetitive basis.
- Possess good vision (may be corrected vision), the ability to see in color, and the ability to hear and communicate in English.
- May use a standard ladder without exceeding the weight limit while carrying tools.
