This position will work a hybrid schedule which includes a combination of working both onsite at Campus and remote.

DESCRIPTION

The Department of Pediatrics is one of the largest departments within The School of Medicine with approximately 164 Faculty, 72 post-doctoral fellows along with over 300 support staff (not including hospital staff). In addition, the Department of 110 clinical residents and fellows are distributed across the Divisions. The missions of research, education and patient care are intertwined, and are integral to the goals of the department. The Department has undergone significant growth in recent years with a consolidated budget of approximately $138 million including sponsored projects expenditures of approximately $65 million and clinical revenue of over $73 million. This expansion of the Department's research and clinical portfolio is expected to continue in the next few years.

This position is responsible for assisting with marketing, outreach, and promotional efforts for the Division of Environmental Science & Health (also known as the Center for Better Beginnings) in the Pediatrics Department and its research, clinical, and service programs. The incumbent will directly support the programs MotherToBaby Pregnancy Studies, Mommy's Milk: Human Milk Research Biorepository, Institute for Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders Discovery, Health Brain and Child Development, and San Diego SOMI.

Under the direct supervision of the Marketing Director, the incumbent will a) Use marketing and outreach tactics to help recruit for pregnancy and lactation studies. Activities may include creating print and digital advertising assets, implementing effective lead generation techniques, creating content marketing (blogs, social media, podcasts, videos, etc.) that highlights our research activities and participation opportunities, and reducing barriers of participation for pregnant and lactating people and refers from healthcare professionals b) Create content and maintain websites for Division programs. This includes editing and adding new pages, managing users, optimizing pages for SEO, and reporting bugs and issues. c) Manage social media and assist with advertising activities for Division projects. This includes copywriting and scheduling content, monitoring reach and engagement, and reporting on results d) Provide graphic design and assist with the development and design of digital and print promotional materials e.) Create email marketing campaigns, manage distribution lists, and fulfill all material order requests e) Log, track, and maintain marketing-related documents for sponsored research projects f) Create and update marketing toolkits and presentations g) Participate in outreach activities to promote the Division and its programs h) Help to supervise UC San Diego marketing student employees. Overseeing daily tasks and projects i) Collaborate with existing partners to promote programs and pursue new partnerships with relevant organizations, influencers, and healthcare providers j.)

Performs other duties as assigned. The incumbent assists in marketing activities and responsibilities such as drafting promotional or marketing materials, working on marketing events, and conducting basic market research, etc. Activities and assignments are designed to expose incumbents to fundamental marketing concepts and principles.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Four(4)years of related experience, education/training, OR a Bachelor's degree in related.

  • Good organizational skills.

  • Good written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.

  • Basic knowledge of marketing principles, strategies, techniques and practices.

  • Basic knowledge of the campus and / or medical center, including its vision, mission, goals, objectives, achievements and infrastructure.

  • Strong written communication skills that demonstrate correct grammar usage, syntax and format to write and edit marketing copy for varying audiences.

  • Ability to write effective advertising copy, electronic communications and public service materials.

  • Experience managing social media promotional efforts for an organization.

  • Demonstrated organizational skills to prioritize assignments and meet deadlines, to coordinate multiple projects, prioritize work, function effectively under deadline pressure and fulfill assignments on schedule.

  • Experience creating and/or managing website content using WordPress or other common content management systems.

  • Demonstrated experience with Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator, InDesign, Canva or other graphics software.

  • Experience in the health sciences and/or the pharmaceutical industry.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience with MailChimp or similar email marketing platforms.
  • Preferred experience writing for health publications.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $53,800 - $91,000 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $25.77 - $43.58

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
