The System Pre-Development & Engine Calibration Engineer is responsible for conducting propulsion systems and engine calibration pre-development. The engineer will plan, coordinate, and analyze data from engine dyno, powertrain dyno, chassis dyno and HIL resources; including interaction with technicians and support engineers. Evaluations will occur with new powertrain technologies that span the hardware, calibration and control domains. The engineer will analyze and solve complex system problems as they relate to engine performance, fuel consumption, emissions, and base engine calibration development. The engineer will manipulate and utilize large and complex sets of engine mapping data to create the base engine calibration which achieve propulsion system functional objectives.

Basic Qualifications:


  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or equivalent Engineering degree
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in the development and calibration of gasoline spark ignition engines; or a Master of Science in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering with 3 years of experience in the development and calibration of gasoline spark ignition engine.
  • Strong knowledge of internal combustion engines
  • Strong expertise and knowledge of engine control strategies and complex optimization strategies
  • Data acquisition experience collecting and processing data
  • System knowledge of engine airflow, combustion, thermodynamics and emissions system development.
  • Outstanding problem solving and analytical skills
  • Good teamwork skills and ability to work independently
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills



Preferred Qualifications:


  • Master of Science in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
  • Experience and overall knowledge in emissions development, powertrain systems development and controls systems development
  • Calibration process knowledge using design of experiments and advanced optimization techniques
  • Proficient in advanced simulation tools
  • Proficient in Matlab / Simulink
