Description

BlueHalo, an AV Company, is seeking an experienced and motivated Lead Mechanical Designer/Drafter to join our Kinetic Effectors Group. This role will assist the Engineering Team with all aspects of CAD design and drawings, maintaining/updating parts lists, BOMs, assembly/test documents, etc. for the Next Generation Counter Uncrewed Aerial System Missile (NGCM) in support of national defense objectives. You will work closely with cross-functional engineering teams, government customers, and suppliers to deliver cutting-edge solutions in a mission-critical environment. You will collaborate closely with engineers to translate concepts into manufacturable designs supporting propulsion systems, airframes, payload integration, and ground support equipment.

Key responsibilities for successful candidates:



  • The ideal candidate will have strong skills in 3D CAD modeling, drafting, and configuration management, with experience applying geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) and working with aerospace materials and fabrication methods.
  • Create and revise 3D CAD models and 2D technical drawings for missile components, subassemblies, and support structures using Creo.
  • Apply GD&T (ASME Y14.5) and tolerance stack-up principles to ensure designs meet functional, manufacturable, and inspection requirements.
  • Generate complete engineering drawing packages, including BOMs, exploded views, and assembly instructions.
  • Work with engineering teams to incorporate design changes, resolve interface issues, and update documentation throughout the design lifecycle.
  • Support prototype development, fabrication, and integration efforts with suppliers and manufacturing teams.
  • Ensure configuration control and document management compliance using PLM systems (e.g., Windchill, Arena).
  • Assist in the preparation of technical presentations, design reviews, and trade studies.


Required Qualifications:



  • Associate degree or certification in Mechanical Design, Drafting Technology, or a related field.
  • U.S. Citizenship required; must be eligible for DoD security clearance.
  • 5+ years of mechanical drafting/design experience in aerospace, defense, or high-reliability systems.
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD software (e.g., Creo).
  • Strong understanding of GD&T and mechanical drafting standards (e.g., ASME Y14.5, Y14.100).
  • Familiarity with materials and manufacturing processes (e.g., machining, composites, sheet metal).
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing is essential.
  • Must be proficient in use Microsoft business tools including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint


Desired Qualifications:



  • Experience designing for missile or weapon systems, launch canisters, propulsion hardware, or avionics packaging.
  • Prior work with air-to-air, air-to-ground, or surface-to-air missile systems.
  • Hands-on experience with rapid prototyping or model-based design workflows.


Salary Range: $89,000 - $116,000

BlueHalo, an AV company pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Determination of official compensation or salary relies on several factors including, but not limited to, level of position, job responsibilities, geographic location, scope of relevant work experience, educational background, certifications, contract-specific affordability, organizational requirements, alignment with local internal equity as well as alignment with market data.
