Overview:

32 hrs/week, 8-hr shifts between 11a-3a, every other weekend, holiday rotation.

Base pay $26.50/hr plus applicable shift differentials.

This is a float position with locations including Main Campus, Hilliard, Dublin, Marysville, Lewis Center, Westerville, East Columbus, Canal Winchester, Grove City.

Target Start Date is October 2025.

Job Description Summary:

Provides technical nursing care to acute and chronically ill children from the age of birth to 21 years and selected adult patients under the direction of a Register Nurse (RN) Care Manager, and in accordance with the Ohio Board of Nursing Law and Rules. Under the direction of the Emergency Medicine or Urgent Care Practitioners, assists in the evaluation, treatment, and follow-up care of patients with minor and major cutaneous trauma, as well as orthopedic injuries. Under the direction of a Registered Nurse and Practitioners assist with the care of emergency services patients.

Job Description:

Essential Functions:

  • Utilizes Therapeutic Communication while monitoring the physical, psychological, and social needs of the patients and families
  • Collaborates with the RN Care Manager directing the patient's care regarding appropriate tasks/nursing interventions.
  • Implements nursing interventions according to established standards demonstrating competence in specified nursing care
  • Administers and documents medications by all routes, i.e. oral, subcutaneous, intramuscular, intradermal, transdermal, rectal and aerosol, utilizing the five rights and all other related safety recommendations.
  • In collaboration with the Practitioner, evaluates individual patient care needs related to the cutaneous wound (s) in relation to depth/degree of injury, and orthopedic injuries in relation to degree of injury, the need for specialty services/consultation/referral and facilitates referral process.
  • Performs procedures under the direction of the Emergency Medicine and Urgent Care Practitioner and in accordance with a written practitioner order.
  • Initiates, reinforces, and documents individualized home going instructions including follow-up, related to wound care, cast splint care, and other orthopedic appliances as appropriate.
  • Documents according to organizational standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Engages in the "workplace community" by functioning as a team member to support patient care within scope of training and competency, by staying aware of changes, participating in data collection or auditing, understanding Quality Improvement, and representing staff at relevant meetings and then reporting important information and updates back to staff.
  • Assists practitioners with educational opportunities of residents, medical house staff, and medical students in suturing techniques and wound care in the emergency care setting.
  • Provides observational experience for students, observing the rights and dignity of each patient and family.

Education Requirement:

Graduate of an approved school of practical or vocational nursing, required.

Licensure Requirement:

Licensed as a Practical Nurse in the State of Ohio, required.

Certifications:

Current BLS-CPR Certification. Must obtain and maintain PEARS certification as determined by Program Supervisor/Program Director.

Skills:

Great verbal and written communication skills, must complete annual Suture Orthopedic Competencies, Suture Labs and In-Service Education requirements
