Job Description:

RN-(Full-Time)-(Oncology)

I. Minimum Education, Training, and Experience Required

Graduate of a school of nursing. Possesses a current RN license in the state of Kentucky. CPR certification required. Must successfully complete the ONS Fundamentals of Chemotherapy/Immunotherapy Administration and the ONS Chemotherapy/Biotherapy course, when eligible (every 2 years). OCN certification strongly encouraged.

I. Position Summary

Performs care requiring substantial specialized knowledge, judgement and nursing skills based upon the principles of psychological, biological, physical and social sciences in the application of the nursing process. Utilizes high-level assessment skills to design and ensure multidisciplinary patient care to meet holistic needs, incorporating established practice guidelines and regulatory standards. Must possess ability to supervise CMA'a and students. All employees will continually monitor and adhere to safety responsibilities and initiatives.

III.Principal Duties and Responsibilities

The following is a summary of the major functions of this individual's job. He/she may perform other duties, both major and minor, which are not mentioned below, and specific functions may change from time to time.

Collects assessment information/ Utilizes critical decision-making skills

Communicates patient information to provider & implements MD orders

Safely administers chemotherapy and immunotherapy. Triages phone calls

Performs procedures per hospital Policy & Procedure. Recognizes and acts promptly in emergency situations. Performs technical skills (initiating IV's, accessing and care of CVAD's, performing, Use of crash cart in emergency situations ...) Demonstrates correct actions in the event of a chemo spill

Communicates effectively with other team members and ancillary departments

Facilitates optimal patient outcomes and concurrently evaluates opportunities to improve patient outcomes. Takes patient phone calls on the weekends, on a rotational basis, with physician support provided.
