Key Responsibilities

Lead and manage global team of employment lawyers across the Americas, Europe, and Asia Pacific

  • Serve as senior-most employment law advisor to executive management in the Legal Department and HR, including the Chief Legal Officer and Chief People Officer.
  • Advise HR, Legal, and Commercial teams on a wide range of employment law issues, including workforce restructuring programs, government agency investigations, M&A activity and integration, executive compensation and employee benefit programs, litigation matters, non-compete agreements, and internal investigations.
  • Manage large portfolio of employment law disputes, including agency charges, demand letters, and - working with the Litigation team - litigation matters.
  • Advise commercial lawyers and business leaders on employment law aspects of commercial transactions, including negotiating commercial contract provisions relating to employment law, resolving client escalations/disputes relating to employees and structuring of client engagements.
  • Handle all employment law issues relating to senior executives, including hiring and terminations of senior leaders, drafting of employment agreements, negotiating with competitors regarding senior-level non-compete disputes, and workplace investigations relating to senior leaders.
  • Stay current on all relevant employment law matters and proactively advise the company accordingly; help to guide sound decision making and up-to-date policies and best practices.
  • Manage and oversee outside counsel relationships including managing matter budgets.
  • Support and lead required trainings to educate various stakeholders both within and outside of the HR department.

Mandatory Capabilities

* Experience managing other attorneys.

* Positive attitude and pragmatic approach, with the ability to work efficiently, meet demanding deadlines in a fast-paced environment, prioritize work, and adjust to frequent workload fluctuations.

* Commitment to promoting an ethical workplace culture and supporting compliance processes and programs.

* Executive leadership and a desire to create a culture that enables exceptional outcomes, by embodying Cognizant's Values of: Work as One, Dare to Innovate, Raise the Bar, Do The Right Thing, and Own It.

* Industry experience with global IT service providers, or at least professional service organizations or technology companies.

* Experience working both at a law firm and in-house.

* Deep experience addressing U.S.-based employment issues related to immigration, contingent workforces and executive hiring.

* Experience working on employment law matters outside the United States.

The annual salary for this position is between $151,000 - $253,000, depending on the experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate.

This position is also eligible for Cognizant's discretionary annual incentive program and stock awards, based on performance and subject to the terms of Cognizant's applicable plans.
