Office of Service Learning

Job Description

This position exists to foster strong partnerships between the university and community organizations, ensuring meaningful service and internship opportunities for students. Its primary purpose is to coordinate and enhance community engaged/service learning initiatives, support student recruitment and training, and manage communication and project oversight to benefit both students and community partners. This position benefits Community Engaged Learning and more broadly High-Impact Courses.

Key Responsibilities:
Community Engagement and Partnerships
* Develop a deep engagement model to recruit and train nonprofit and community partners to provide a range of service and internship opportunities for university undergraduates.
* Act as a senior community development coordinator with nonprofit organizations, schools, and extension for the Office of Community Engaged Learning (CEL) and the MU Campus.
* Prioritize field engagement by attending community events and visiting potential sites.

Program Development
* Work with the director to expand the footprint of CEL on campus through unit-level targeted projects.
* Support service learning as a High-Impact Practice, including faculty training, HIPs institute, community of practice, and implementing Goal 7 of strategic plan
* Help faculty develop service learning courses and ensure placement sites are ready each semester

Partner Training and Standards
* Help create and manage partner training opportunities and express service learning standards.
* Create expectations and requirements for partnering with CEL
* Facilitate training and create documentation for using GivePulse/the service learning platform for faculty, partners, and students.

Advising
* Directly advise undergraduate students on the Minor in Leadership and Service
* Work with Novak Leadership Institute, CLIP Director, and academic unit advisors on how to advise students for the minor

Volunteer Coordination and Training
* Assist in managing overall volunteer coordination.
* Assist in training undergraduates, in partnership with service-learning staff, before placement in agencies and schools.

Communication and Support
* Ensure regular communication with partners and students by managing CEL support staff to make regular announcements, emails, forms, PowerPoints, etc.; including updating listings and GivePulse pages with communication received from partners.

Student Recruitment and Outreach
* Lead student recruitment through visits on campus and regular awareness/outreach across all departments, including managing CEL staff and student workers to do this.

Database and Project Management
* Oversee CEL staff in maintaining the GivePulse database to track student activities and provide ongoing assessment and project management.

Other duties as assigned.

Shift

Standard working hours (M-F 8-5) with some flex time as needed

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and 2 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary

Preferred Qualifications

Masters degree is preferred

Anticipated Hiring Range

Salary Range: $21.71 - $25.25 hourly

Grade: GGS-009
