Reporting directly to the Director of Tax, this role offers a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of real estate investment, development, and corporate tax strategy. You will play a key role in managing tax compliance and planning for a diverse portfolio of real estate partnerships and corporate entities. Primary Duties & Responsibilities Tax Compliance: - Prepare/review tax PBC schedules with external CPA for the annual federal and multi-state tax return compliance.
- Prepare/review standard tax work papers, such as M1 and fixed assets roll forward schedules, tax basis balance sheets, tax capital accounts roll forward schedules, and tax returns to ensure proper documentation and support of tax positions.
- Coordinate with external CPA firms for federal and state tax filings, including quarterly estimated and extension payments calculations.
- Ensure all tax compliance, tax returns, and tax payments are filed timely.
- Update entity tracker for tax return filings, new entity setups and terminations, and payment statuses.
- Resolve IRS and state tax audits and notices.
Tax Planning & Analysis: - Prepare deferred income taxes under ASC 740 for the annual audit.
- Perform analytical review of property-related financials for tax return reporting and quarterly tax projection purposes.
- Support various collaborative projects, including assisting with tax compliance, estimates for Corporation and Individual partners, provisions, and planning.
- Research tax issues as needed.
Collaboration & Communication: - Work closely with the corporate and subsidiaries’ accounting groups internally.
- Coordinate with external joint venture investors for tax reporting.
- Appropriately delegate work to and supervise tax administrative staff.
Process Improvement & Documentation: - Document tax procedures and streamline and enhance processes when possible.
- Take on other projects as needs arise (e.g., city business and local excise tax returns).
- Other duties as required.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities - Familiar with real estate partnership and corporate tax technical knowledge.
- Experience with federal and multi-state partnership and corporate tax returns.
- Enthusiastic and proactive with a ‘can-do’ attitude.
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Solid Microsoft Excel skills (index match, sum-ifs, pivot tables, etc.) are required.
- Positive, eager to learn, and take on challenges.
- Able to work both independently and collaborate as part of a team.
- Able to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Able to work in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.
- Strong accounting, analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Tax preparation and research software knowledge is preferred (i.e., ProSystem and RIA Checkpoint).
Qualifications & Education - A Bachelor of Science in Accounting or a related field (Experience with real estate investment structures, such as REITs, joint ventures, is a plus).
- 3-5 years of experience with partnership tax-related matters, either in a public accounting firm or equivalent experience in a real estate or a private equity company tax department.
- A CPA license is a plus.
