OPERATIONS SUPERVISOR

$20.23-25.29

JOB SUMMARY:

The Operations Supervisor oversees assigned staff at the recycling center including material handlers, forklift operators, and yard jockeys. The Operations Supervisor ensures retail stores are serviced in a timely manner with requested product.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides direct supervision of assigned staff, prioritizing and assigning tasks for completion; Supervises baler operations, loading and unload of trailers and clean-outs, store shipments and salvage pick-ups; Supervises staff schedules to ensure smooth operations while meeting deadlines and controlling overtime
  • Conducts training for new hires on department procedures, policies, equipment usage and safety practices
  • Conducts facility inspections documenting finding and presenting recommendations for improvements; Ensures good housekeeping practices promoting safe working conditions
  • Reviews pre-sorted and post-route slips ensuring appropriate routes are followed
  • Completes and submits incident reports in a timely manner; Conducts thorough investigations of all incidents making recommendations for improvements; Ensures adequate and proper usage of personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Forecasts trailer and truck needs for donation sites and stores
  • Opens and closes the building according to company policies and procedures
  • Completes daily security spot checks to control company assets
  • Promotes, ensures and models excellent customer service in internal and external customers
  • Ensures proper record keeping and prepares and submits accurate reports in a timely manner
  • Provides support to Senior Operations Supervisor

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

  • High School diploma or equivalent preferred
  • One year supervisory experience in a warehouse or distribution environment

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

  • Must possess a current valid driver's license and be fully insured according to Maryland law.
  • Maintains an active forklift operator's certification. License must be earned within 30 days of hire.

SCOPE OF SUPERVISION:

  • Directly supervises warehouse staff including Material Handlers and Forklift Operations; Typically supervises a staff of 12 - 15 full time employees
  • Employees under scope of supervision are at same location

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Ability to clearly communication instructions and information in-person and over the telephone
  • Ability to complete tasks with numerous interruptions
  • Ability to manipulate numbers
  • Basic computer skills with the ability to type; Basic knowledge of email, internet and Microsoft Office products such as Word and Excel
  • Ability to prioritize and complete tasks with little direct supervision
  • Working knowledge to operate warehouse equipment such as manual and electric hand-jacks, forklifts, bailers, yard jockey trailer and trucks

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Sedentary

Lifting up to 10 pounds maximum and occasionally lifting and/or carrying such articles as dockets, ledgers and files. Walking and standing are occasionally required. Frequently required to use hands and fingers to hold, handle and feel objects, knobs, keys and/or buttons

Light

Lifting up to 20 pounds maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying objects weighing up to 10 pounds. May be required to regularly stand for extended periods of time, walk, reach with hands/arms with full range of motion, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, push or pull. Regularly required to talk and hear. Frequently required to use hands and fingers to hold, handle and feel objects, knobs, keys and/or buttons.

Medium

Lifting up to 50 pounds maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds. May be required to regularly stand for extended periods of time, walk, reach with hands/arms with full range of motion, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, push or pull. Regularly required to talk and hear. Frequently required to use hands and fingers to hold, handle and feel objects, knobs, keys and/or buttons.

Heavy

Lifting up to 100 pounds maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying objects weighing up to 50 pounds. May be required to regularly stand for extended periods of time, walk, reach with hands/arms with full range of motion, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, push or pull. Regularly required to talk and hear. Frequently required to use hands and fingers to hold, handle and feel objects, knobs, keys and/or buttons.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:

Travel is defined as travel to all areas within Goodwill's territory (Cecil, Harford, Baltimore, Howard, and Anne Arundel Counties, Baltimore City and the entire Eastern Shore of Maryland). In some cases, long-distance travel, including overnights may be required but is typically planned in advance. In some cases, travel may be unplanned.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. Employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles and outside weather conditions. Employee is occasionally exposed to high precarious places, risk of electrical shock and/or vibration. The noise level is usually loud.
