The primary purpose of the Proof of Concept (POC) Process Specialist position is to support the development, testing, and refinement of new manufacturing technologies and processes by setting up, maintaining, and optimizing equipment and tooling within the POC Lab. This role ensures that conceptual designs and experimental builds can be effectively evaluated in a controlled, hands-on environment. By combining mechanical expertise, troubleshooting skills, and a proactive approach to continuous improvement, the POC Process Specialist plays a key role in advancing innovation and enabling the successful transition of early-stage ideas into scalable production-ready solutions.

What You Will Do

  • Set up, change over, and adjust all current and new equipment in the Proof of Concept (POC) Lab.
  • Troubleshoot equipment and tooling issues; determine root causes and perform corrective actions.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on lab equipment and develop/maintain a preventive maintenance schedule.
  • Maintain and repair video camera equipment used within the POC Lab.
  • Operate and interact with machine HMIs to adjust settings and configure machines for new product runs.
  • Organize and maintain inventory of all tooling; manage and maintain the Tool Crib in the POC Lab.
  • Serve as a technical resource for mockups and product displays developed in the POC Lab.
  • Develop and suggest simple process improvements to support ergonomic and efficiency goals.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized lab environment consistent with 6S methodology.
  • Ensure that equipment is operated safely, and Work Hazard Assessment are performed.
  • Collaborate with process engineers on special projects and R&D efforts.
  • Support the development and testing of new manufacturing technologies for next-generation products.
  • Understand, support, and contribute to PBM, Six Sigma, International Standards Organization (ISO) and Environmental, and/or Health and Safety (EH&S) management Systems by following stated policies and procedures.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by management.

Who You Are

  • High School Diploma or GED Certificate
  • 2 years or more of hands-on experience working in a manufacturing, prototyping, or R&D lab environment.
  • Demonstrated experience with machine setup, changeovers, and mechanical troubleshooting.
  • Experience with preventive maintenance routines and mechanical/electromechanical equipment repair.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical drawings, tooling diagrams, and assembly schematics.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in cross-functional teams on technical projects.
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and hands-on technical troubleshooting capabilities.
  • Familiar with 3D CAD software and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Willingness to work occasional overtime and weekends as projects need dictation.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks with shifting priorities and meeting project deadlines.

What Puts You Ahead

  • Trade School or Associates in a Mechanical Field
  • Basic proficiency with 3D design/CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Fusion 360) for creating fixtures or tooling.
  • Exposure to working with or configuring machine HMIs or programmable interfaces.
  • Familiarity with project tracking or documentation tools such as Jira or Confluence.
  • Experience with Lasers for welding and ablating.
  • Prior experience making fixtures for machine shop equipment such as drills, mills, saws, lathes, etc.
  • Use basic 3D design software to design and produce simple fixtures for lab use.

For this role, we anticipate paying $28 - $32 per hour. This role is eligible for variable pay, issued as a monetary bonus or in another form.
