Summary:

At PeoplesBank our Vice President, Commercial Lending - Commercial & Industrial role focuses on soliciting new business and expanding existing relationships within our market area. You'll identify opportunities for business lending, depository needs, and cash management services, while managing a significant portfolio of commercial relationships ($100-$150 million) and originating approximately $20 million annually.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prospects and networks within the Bank's footprint to develop new relationships and grow existing ones, with lending relationships typically exceeding $1 million. Interviews applicants and analyzes credit information in collaboration with the Portfolio Manager and Credit Department to recommend loan structures to the leadership team. Compiles loan packages and facilitates negotiations with applicants, including fees, loan repayment options, and other credit terms.
  • Identifies and develops credit, deposit, and cash management opportunities independently for new and existing customers through a consultative approach. Responds quickly and professionally to internal and external leads. Collaborate with team members to efficiently assist with opportunities. Provides a superior level of customer service and support
  • Builds and manages a significant portfolio (in excess of $100 million) of commercial relationships. This includes providing customer service, maintaining credit and collateral files, reviewing loan documentation and underwriting approvals, assigning and monitoring risk ratings, and monitoring credits for delinquency and deterioration. Additionally, oversees credit management functions such as financial statement collection, covenant testing, and annual reviews, and takes active steps necessary to reduce loan losses.
  • Assures the completion of necessary loan documents and loan agreements to close commercial transactions in accordance with underwriting approval and credit policy guidelines.
  • Participates in local civic, philanthropic, and other service activities to increase the visibility of the bank in the local community.
  • Works with counterparts and business partners to develop and implement sales strategies, creating new opportunities for existing customers and prospects.
  • Complete yearly compliance training and adhere to bank policies and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in finance or accounting OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Eight years or more of experience in banking, with progressive responsibility in Commercial Credit and Commercial Loan underwriting.

Skills Required:

  • Language: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Capable of responding to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Proficient in effectively presenting information to the leadership team, public groups, and boards of directors.
  • Quantitative: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as interest, proportions, and percentages.
  • Reasoning: Ability to define broad problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Other Skills and Knowledge: Ability to learn new products and make connections for cross-selling, as well as strong communication and presentation skills.

Computer/Technical Skills:

  • Knowledge of computer applications, including Word and Excel
