Essential Job Responsibilities:
The Payroll Accountant is responsible for preparing, reviewing, and filing company quarterly payroll taxes. This role will review and approve all payroll and benefit balance sheet reconciliations and answer accounting questions regarding payroll variances/analytics.
- Manages, reconciles and reviews all payroll liability accounts for 10 entities including medical benefits and employee deductions.
- Ensures accuracy related to all payroll liability accounts.
- Posts journal entries to the financial general ledger for all payroll and benefit differences.
- Reviews and maintains multi-state quarterly and annual taxes.
- Reviews and approves tax payment requests to ensure that no payments are missed, payments are prepared accurately, on time and no penalties are assessed.
- Provides backup coverage to payroll for reviewing, approving and accepting all payrolls in ADP Vantage weekly.
- Downloads, edits and posts payroll from ADP to the financial general ledger accounts monthly in a timely and accurate manner.
- Acts as a liaison between payroll and accounting and addresses accounting questions related to payroll variances.
- Monthly bank reconciliations for a number of bank accounts.
- Prepares monthly admin billing of payroll for 8 different joint ventures.
- Prepares monthly estimated payrolls for COSCO joint venture.
- Prepares annual audit schedules for Annual Workman's comp audits for 20 companies.
- Performs compliance for unclaimed property payroll checks, sent to Tax department for payment to EE or State.
- Balances ADPR report to the activity spreadsheets for various companies on a quarterly and annual basis and handles payroll to W-2's annually. (W-2, W-2c, etc.).
- Prepares annual vacation spreadsheet for audit using ADP e-Time & Vantage.
- Other job duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Associates degree is required.
- CPP preferred but not required.
- 2 years' experience processing multi-state payroll.
- Working knowledge of payroll best practices.
- Working knowledge of federal and state regulations.
- Understands proper taxation of employer paid benefits.
- Strong PC skills including proficiency in Excel.
- Working knowledge Kronos, ADP - Vantage preferred.
- Strong work ethic and team player.
- High degree of professionalism.
- Ability to analyze payroll data.
- Ability to deal sensitively with confidential information.
- Must have strong interpersonal (verbal and written) communication skills to effectively navigate interactions with employees and managers at all levels of the organization.
- Ability to communicate with various levels of management.
- Must have good decision-making, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
- Organizational, multi-tasking, and prioritizing skills.
- Must be able to work under weekly deadline pressures, monthly reconciliation deadlines and quarter end and year end activities related to payroll accounting
Work Environment:
- Exposure to computer screens.
- The noise level in work environment is usually moderate.
- Required hybrid work schedule, at least 3 days/week in office.
- Required job duties are performed in a professional office environment.
