Position Overview The Designer I role supports technical and project managers in preparing plans, studies, and reports for public and private sector projects. The Designer I is vital to ensuring designs and studies are thorough, accurate, and meet the project's objectives from drainage area delineation to pond and flood modeling, Success in this role is defined by developing and displaying proficiency in both in-office and field competency targets. Key Responsibilities
- Apply understanding of basic hydrology: use of GIS, USGS, FIRM and Soil Maps
- Delineate drainage areas and use AutoCAD to develop drainage area maps; Delineate land-use conditions and develop pre- and post-development hydrologic calculations
- Read and understand land use ordinances, specifically buffer regulations, flood protection requirements, and peak flow control rules, to apply them as necessary.
- Know how to find and apply local, state, McAdams and client design requirements
- Use AutoCAD Civil 3D and be familiar with available CAD tools and commands; standalone software; GIS; correct application of design and CAD standards
- Exhibit good communication and time management skills, complete tasks efficiently.
- Assist with development of storm drainage calculations using McAdams approved software and prepare construction documents as required Assist with channel design using state E&S manual and McAdams approved software as required
- Assist with layout of Erosion Control devices and develop plans per local and State standards
- Assist with design and layout of stormwater management facilities and assist with development of plans per local and State standards
- Assist with preparation of nutrient management calculations
- Demonstrate basic understanding of riverine flood analysis, FEMA map revisions, and experience with HECRAS
- Perform Conflicts Assessments - Identify potential utility conflicts and impacts to proposed design
- Use understanding of basic grading concepts
- Assemble detail sheets (AutoCAD) per jurisdiction - Local/State/Federal Standards
- Assemble a set of plans including all necessary notes and construction sequences per company and local standards, and general understanding of project specifications. Adjust redline plans and designs according to feedback.
