Description
The Patient Gaming Technology Coordinator will develop, implement, and evaluate patient gaming technology, gaming programs and recreational play for patients, families, and community partners in support of the department goals and objectives. The Patient Gaming Technology Coordinator is responsible for the initiating and supporting work efforts that maximize quality, safety, and services. Foster positive and professional interpersonal relationships with patients/families, physicians, hospital staff, community representatives, and visitors. Effectively use interpersonal communication skills to promote a healing environment. Patient Gaming Technology Coordinator will be responsible for supervision and support of gaming technology and other patient gaming technology assigned, as well as support to the studio programming/technology. Will be responsible for assisting departmental leadership with responsibilities and will represent patient gaming technology programs at an organizational level, as needed. Qualifications
Education Associates degree/tech degree or equivalent is required, in related field or with work experience (Required) Bachelor's Degree In related field or work experience with children/youth in technology/gaming (Preferred) Minimum Work Experience Minimum of two (2) years of related experience in the gaming, technology and/or health care setting. (Required) 1 year Experience with children, adolescents, young adults, and experience working with patients with life-threatening and/or complex illness. (Required) Certifications Related to field (Preferred) Required Skills/Knowledge * Advanced interpersonal skills with ability to communicate and collaborate with patients and families, medical professionals, hospital staff, etc; meeting personal needs of individuals to build trust, encourage two-way communication and strengthen relationships. * Ability to apply knowledge of gaming and technology in the hospital environment that serves children and adolescents * Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple tasks simultaneously, utilizing critical thinking and problem solving skills * Ability to comfortably work with internal and external individuals from diverse social, cultural and educational backgrounds. * Ability to identify and work collaboratively with diverse teams to achieve goals. * Ability to listen, be empathetic, motivate and follow-through, and eager to seize challenges and resolve issues * Adaptability - maintaining effectiveness when experiencing major changes in the work responsibleness or environment; adjusting effectively to change by exploring the benefits of trying new approaches and collaborating with others to make the change successful. * Diversity and Inclusion - being sensitive to culture diversity, race, gender, and other individual differences in the workforce; recognize the value of diverse perspectives and experiences and fosters a work environment reflective of the community at large. * Ability to identify differences between gaming technology used with patients and other forms of technology used for patient care and within the organization. * Effectively managing one's time and resources to ensure that works is completed efficiently. Functional Accountabilities Patient Tech & Gaming Programming * Work with patients, families, and staff to understand the needs of patient populations in relation to programs * Assess individual and/or group needs at time of program delivery * Evaluates program outcomes * Obtain and maintain an age-appropriate and safe selection and quantity of supplies, equipment, and other materials for programs * Demonstrate the ability to respond to multiple demands at once and prioritize and delegate appropriate tasks to facilitate efficient and safe patient programming. * Exhibit ethical and professional responsibility to contribute to patient care, customer service, teamwork, and professionalism. * Coordinate the development and maintenance of departmental resources * Creates and leads the life cycle of system implementation and upkeep, including the installation, training and technical support of gaming systems. * Installs, maintains, troubleshoots, updates and repairs gaming systems and related peripheral equipment, including gaming technical support to the Seacrest studio. * Supervise gaming/tech volunteers and provide appropriate patient referrals to volunteers throughout hospital. * Work to support gaming programming in the studio environment. Patient Experience * Fosters environment for patients and families to feel heard and understood, anticipates patient and family needs, and ensures needs are met. * Collaborates with service line team and other professionals to provide activities, special visitors, events, and entertainment to patients and families hospital-wide * Assists service line team, assigned area of hospital, and/or department with intake and distribution of donations of toys and other items Interdisciplinary Collaboration * Collaborates with interdisciplinary healthcare team in order to provide optimal/well-coordinated care and advocate for patient and family needs * Works primarily with patients and families, alongside child life and other team members, utilizing appropriately-assigned gaming and technology for recreational play, co-treatment support, and all other manner of related equipment and methods * Uses formal and informal methods of communication to share program interventions, and evaluations, as appropriate * Maintains communication with interdisciplinary team members to coordinate programming * Work with other hospital programs to ensure well-coordinated care/programming for patients and families. * Collaborates with team members on research related to gaming system implementation and outcomes with relation to patient care * Cultivate strong relationships with Children's National AV, IT, conference services, network, getwell and engineering teams. * Work collaboratively with the studio team, activity coordinators, child life and others within the department. Program Development & Promotion * Provides gaming implementation, training and technical support to the program * Attends and participates in opportunities that complement and enhance professional development. * Works with public relations, marketing, communications, foundation, and other hospital departments to promote the program internally and externally, as appropriate. * Participates in research projects related to programs and interventions. * Assist with activities to fund the program (grant-writing, support fundraising events/activities) * Assist with orientation, training, supervision and evaluation of new staff and students/interns, as assigned * Participate in setting goals and priorities for program * Develop, update, and implement appropriate materials to promote special programs. * Maintain organized records, statistics, and surveys of the programs. * Use systems and measures to evaluate the effectiveness of programs. * Manages resources of programs and hospital and ensures consistent supply of resources. * Adheres to budget set and outlined by Manager/Director * Presents in-service trainings on role and impact of programs to departments or assigned areas, increasing understanding of importance of service * Provides training, supervision, and feedback, and facilitates patient interaction to volunteers. * Co-leads special projects involving gaming and other technologies, including but not limited to presentations for leadership, donors, partners, and other key stakeholders * Serves as a representative of the program between program, department, organization, foundation and community partners * Disseminates technical knowledge, including formal training across the Child Life team and other individuals and departments across the hospital * Utilizes industry knowledge to implement best practices on all applicable gaming systems, equipment, and emerging technologies Professional Development * With Manager/Director, establishes annual goals and independently works to meet those goals. * Participates as member of assigned area or department committees as deemed appropriate. * Assumes accountability of continued professional growth and shares learned knowledge and skills with colleagues. * Maintains a willingness to learn and openness to new ideas and practices Daily Operations * Create and maintain a climate which stimulates professional growth and development by providing personal and professional mentoring and support to all staff and students. * Identify, report and resolve unit/area problems/issues or conflicts with patients, families and staff, keeping manager aware of results. * Ensure compliance with all regulatory standards. * Participate in monthly meetings * Coordinate the ordering and securing of supplies and equipment, as needed * Demonstrate knowledge and implement patient safety and quality improvements Supervisory and Leadership Skills * Provide supervision of program, as assigned * Develop, evaluate, and update required departmental orientation, in services and trainings. * Supports leadership decisions and initiatives in a positive manner * Actively participate in policy and documentation revisions/creations * Supervise program volunteers Primary Location
